Category: Transfer

Juventus are lining up an approach for Roma’s unsettled striker Antonio Cassano, according to reports in Italy.

The Turin club have been conspicuously quiet on the whole Cassano affair for a number of weeks now, while the former Bari star has been linked with possible moves to Real Madrid and Inter.

Now, though, Juventus director general Luciano Moggi is understood to be planning a swoop for the striker and will meet with Cassano’s agent, Beppe Bozzo, on Friday to discuss the matter.

While Inter’s interest in Cassano seems to have waned with their declaration this week that they will only buy him if he is available on a free in the summer, Real Madrid have had delegates in Rome for a number of days.

However, the Spanish club are said to be put off by Roma’s asking price of £8.2m for a player that will command no transfer fee in June and are holding out for additional players to be included in the deal – namely Cristian Chivu and Daniele De Rossi.

With Cassano preferring to remain in Italy, the Bianconeri now seem to be in the box seat and Moggi will discuss two possibilities with Bozzo.

Firstly, a favourable price for the player in January or, secondly, first option on the player in the summer with a gentleman’s agreement to compensate the Giallorossi to some degree – either with cash or perhaps by exchanging a player.

Any such deal will depend on the outcome of the imminent decision by the European Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) on whether or not to lift the transfer embargo on Roma, which was imposed after the non-payment of fees following the ‘purchase’ of Philippe Mexes from Auxerre.

Although Cassano first choice-club would be Inter, as he is a lifelong Nerazzurri fan, the 24-year-old would not be averse to teaming up with Fabio Capello, under whom he enjoyed a successful spell at Roma.

Source: Football Italia

Because he's playing for Roma, if he had a chance to be a bianconeri he won't be like this specially under the control of the Don ( Fabio capello)

why we have to blame him?

He is a good player and still young but he needs to play with big team like Juve !

The problem is that he would take Mutu's place and I don't want that. Mutu is a better scorer. Yes, Cap loves him but if the rest of the players don't...that's the problem. We're fine like this. IMO

this friday,today?
i hope we will finish it today, one way or the other,
we need a finisher,not another DP,Mutu,Zlatan...
and Cassano will never grow up,just like Totti,
however if we have the chance to grap him with 0-5mil and sell him in a couple of years to Real or someone else 10-15mil wouldnt be bad,
we must not "compensate" the Giallorossi furthermore by exchanging a good player like Mutu,
we gave them already Kuffour,Taddei and Nonda,
Blasi would be enough for the deal;)

Is maybe Cassano seen by Fabio as the replacement for DP when he quits (hope it's not soon) or does Fabio Capello want to try a 4-3-3 or something like that? You can't sit Cassano you know, and Trezeguet scores too much and Zlatan seems to be liked by both the Don and the fans.

Cassano is a great player. Trez, DP & Ibra too. This affair makes me confused.

Juve ‘agree’ Cassano terms Friday 2 December, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roma starlet Antonio Cassano is set to join Juventus in the summer, according to reports in Italy.

As reported by Football Italia yesterday, Juve director general Luciano Moggi met with Cassano’s agent Beppe Bozzo in Florence on Thursday to discuss a possible move and the two are said to have agreed in principle to a deal.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cassano would move to Turin in June and, although a free agent by then, Roma will be compensated for the loss of their £20m signing to the tune of approximately £3m.

The Giallorossi have yet to agree to the move but, with Inter and Real Madrid having distanced themselves from the player over the last week, agreement with the Bianconeri seems the only reasonable course of action left to the cash-strapped club from the Italian capital.

Provided Roma do agree to the deal, the only remaining stumbling block lies in the form of the European Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS).

They have yet to decide whether or not to lift the transfer embargo on the Giallorossi, imposed after the non-payment of fees following the Philippe Mexes’ move from Auxerre.
