As much as i respect Riquelme...
I think Almiron will be the surprise for us.
If he'll play like he played in Empoli we can be great and we won't need a playmaker.

He's kinda like pirlo.
Can play as AMF but doesn't have the speed for.
Can play as DMF but you can't count on him to defend alone.
He plays as CMF and do both.
OK, but comparing Riquelme and Almiron in forms of pure talent is ludicrous. Of course Riquelme is slow, lazy, etc. but in terms of ability he is in the same league as Kaka and Ronaldinho.

Personally I think we are fin. We won the scudetto with Emerson and viera twice. And Boum has sucked for a while now. Its not a one year flop. If he was good he wouldnt of come down to Serie B. If you arent very good in serie b then you cant cut it in serie a when teams are as good if not better than us. They had to sit back and defend in serie b. A defenders biggest attribute is concentration and smarts not physical ability. Thats why Maldini still starts.

Some reports in italian media said that the player that Milan is going to sign is Riquelme. According to them he'll get EU pasport very soon.
As far as i know it takes 4 year for non-EU player to gain nationality in Spain. Riquelme was signed by Villarreal in 2003 so he's been there 4 seasons. But the thing is that he was loaned out to Boca and spent half of the season there. So I'm not sure that he can get Spanish nationality.

Ancelotti Denies Riquelme Interest, Calls For Patience

As AC Milan's pre season continues apace, there is still the small matter of the transfer window. Many rossoneri fans are disillusioned by their club's lack of movement on the transfer front. Now, another potential target has been struck off the list, as coach Carlo Ancelotti dismisses the prospect of Juan Roman Riquelme's arrival at the San Siro...

Juan Roman Riquelme may well be on the way out of Villarreal - but he wil not be heading for Milan.

When Carlo Ancelotti was quizzed about the prospect of the Argentine's arrival, he curtly replied, "No. This prospect does not exist. I don't know how it started."

Riquelme spent the second half of last season on loan at Boca Juniors and, despite being assigned a Villarreal squad number, still seems out of favour at the Madrigal.

With his redemption coming at the Copa America, wherein he performed to a decent level, Riquelme's value has increased greatly, but that has not tempted the beaks at AC Milan to any great degree.

Instead, Ancelotti is still tracking Pato, the Brazilian wunderkind who may join the club in January.

But patience seems to be the watchword at the San Siro. Ancelotti added, "There is time until 31 August, and, of course, there is the January market.

"A great player could arrive in January. There's nothing to say he has to come right now.

"The Milan tifosi must believe in the value of the squad, and not worry so much about who is going to arrive. To the spirit of the current squad, they must contribute serenity."

Someone explain to me why Milan even need to sign players considering they just won the CL and have a great team.

Nonetheless, i dont think juve need a pure playmaker, just someone to take over Nedved. In saying that neddy right now seems to be in good shape and with brazzo, camo and marchionni still at the club, plus the option of the 3 upfront with palladino, del piero, iaquinta all being able to play off trezeguet, i think the club may be fine with offensiveness. Tiago and Almiron are interesting players also who can offer the team support moving forward through the middle.

none of the above players are as creative as the likes of Riquelme, deco, ronaldinho or kaka, but Ranieri can make it all work well.

Riquelme Finally Confirms Boca Exit

Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme has finally confirmed he will not continue to play for Boca Juniors, and will return to Villarreal on Monday.

Finally after weeks of speculation Riquelme told reporters that he will no longer play for Boca, and will return to Villarreal, where he will begin training on Monday.

“In a few days I have to begin training with my club, which is Villarreal”, Riquelme stated in a press conference.

“I will immediately get myself ready for [Villarreal] manager Manuel Pellegrini, who I plan to only have a player and manager relationship with, and only that”, he explained.

The Argentine international affirmed: “I’ve always been a Boca fan, and when I play for Villarreal and watch Boca on the television and see one of my teammates wearing the number ten jersey, I will feel like I am lending it to him, right until the day when I put it on again”.

Riquelme told the press that he is likely to play for the Argentine giants again in the near future: “Maybe I will put on the Boca shirt in June of 2009, when my Villarreal contract expires”.

The talented playmaker, who led Boca to the 2007 Copa Libertadores title, sent his thanks to the Boca directors who tried their best to keep him at the club for another season: “I thank you for doing your best to retain me, but the truth is I have been a Villarreal player as from the 31st of June, and I’m obligated to present myself at the club”.

Boca’s directors intended to keep the player, but were unable to purchase him from Villarreal because of his hefty price tag.

Riquelme had made it clear that he didn't want to return to play for Villarreal, but must do so after not receiving any formal offers to join any other clubs, despite interest from Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.

The gifted midfielder expressed his desire to continue to enjoy playing football, even though he won't be able to help Boca fight for the Club World Cup that will be held in Japan in December.

“I feel fortunate to play football and I’m happy when I play on the pitch. Since I was a little kid I was taught that I should have fun, and I want to continue to do this”, he concluded.

Diego...not so sure after Copa America...was horrible
Did you see my post on the Serbian defender Marko Basa in the I'd like this player thread? He is with Le Mans & according to SportItalia is Juve's next transfer target...No-one here seems to know whether or not he's worth buying...
