I would like to see Cannavaro winning it for a change.

And Zambrotta isn't mentioned.
Man, if Maldini didn't win it after spending a legendary 20 years on the field then how do ya rate the chances of a deffender to win Golden Ball ???

Juve dominate Golden Ball list Monday 24 October, 2005

Channel4.com

Juventus are the most represented club in the 50-man shortlist for the 2005 European Footballer of the Year award.

The Italian champions have a total of nine players in the running following their success in Italy over the last year.

Gianluigi Buffon, Mauro Camoranesi, Fabio Cannavaro, Patrick Vieira, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Trezeguet, Lilian Thuram, Emerson and 2004 winner Pavel Nedved are all up for the prize.

Milan have five members of their squad in the roster thanks to the performances of Andrea Pirlo, Paolo Maldini, Nelson Dida, Kaka and current Golden Ball holder Andriy Shevchenko.

The Inter pair of Luis Figo and Adriano make up the 16 Italian based players included, the same number as the English Premier League.

However, there are some big names missing from Serie A in the form of Juve captain Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti of Roma.

The winner will be selected via votes from European based journalists by France Football magazine.

The award this year celebrates its 50th birthday.

If its about who is the best player, there can only be 1 --> Ronaldinho

If its about what has been achieved last season, its IMO Steven Gerrard

3. Juninho
4. Henry
5. Lampard
6. Luca Toni

Finally we´re getting what we deserve, though most likely no Juve player will win anything:(.

Talking about people who shouldn´t be on the list MArtin mentioned Forlan. I think he deserves to be there. Pichichi of La Liga, this season he has been with his mind elsewhere. But for what he did alst season he sure deserves it. No Gerrard? please... that´s just a joke

This must be between Ronaldinho, Deco, or Steven Gerrard. I would choose Deco because it's no joke Ronaldinho will win FIFA Player of the Year.

David Beckham? Raul? What have Robinho done in Europe so far? And above all, NO ZAMBROTTA?? :fero: What a joke! This list is 97% merchandising, just like FIFA's one.

Anyhow, Lampard should win.

ronaldinho should have to play with ankle weights and a blindfold, it just isn't fair to the other players when he's not handicapped
