Category: General

Fabio Cannavaro says he’s mystified to why former club Juventus were the only outfit to be demoted in the Calciopoli probe.

“I don’t understand why Juventus were the only club to pay when there were several clubs involved in the scandal,” said Cannavaro in an interview with La Repubblica.

“We won the Scudetto on the pitch and I can guarantee that we never had the feeling someone was helping us from the outside,” added the 33-year-old.

“I think that the club is doing the right thing by continuing with their fight for Serie A readmission.

“However, I also see why the FIGC named Inter as last year’s champions as they had to somehow assign the Scudetto.”

The World Cup winner moved to Real Madrid with Emerson after the Bianconeri’s demotion where they joined former Juve Coach Fabio Capello.

However, the Azzurri captain has insisted that he didn’t betray the club by turning his back on them this summer.

“This is a very Italian habit,” he added. “Every time somebody leaves a team they turn into traitors, but I don’t agree.

“I left Juventus because I received an important offer from an important club, where I hope I will end my career at the top.

“Even if I know this may be hard to believe, I would have stayed at Juventus had they remained in Serie A – even with a 30-point deduction.”

Cannavaro is confident that Juventus can still have a good season despite the mass exodus of players and insists he’ll never forget his time in Turin.

“I know that the team is working hard and they are surrounded by enthusiasm,” he noted. “I think they can do well.

“I will always check on the Juventus result, after that of Napoli of course. I spent two wonderful and unforgettable years at Juve.”

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is also confident that Juventus will return to the top level in three or four years, but understands those who chose to set off for another team.

“I hope we will be able to play in Serie A next year, but this is not certain,” said the Azzurri goalkeeper.

“I don’t think the players who left Juventus did so for the money, but because they were concerned about their career.”

Source: Football Italia

A mercenary is a soldier who fights, or engages in warfare primarily for money, usually with little regard for ideological, national or political considerations. However, when the term is used to refer to a soldier in a regular national army, it is usually considered an insult, epithet or pejorative.

No one was more devastated that I was when it was officially announced that Canna signed with Real. I can still barely look at him in a Real jersey. I adore him as a player and as a person. It took me awhile to reconcile the fact that he left not only Juve but Italy as well. But in my rational mind I understood that he only has a few years left to play and he wanted to have the challenge to win the CL and the League (whatever league).

I do believe him that he would have stayed with Juve in Serie A. And out of all the players that left Juve, Canna was the only one who thanked the fans numerous times, and had only complimentary things to say about Juve, Torino and the fans. I have only respect and admiration for him. And I wish him well.

And I do believe that he will finish his career at Napoli. That is truly where his heart is.

If he wanted to end his career with Napoli i would have understood.
But you don't understand him wanting to end his career at the most prestigious and successful club in the world?

Besides, he could end his final years at Napoli yet.

I don't mean to be offensive, but one can clearly see how Cannavaro and Zambrotta are different with the likes of Thuram in the heart of most Juve fans. Yes, it is true that they (Canna and Zambro) are playing with words, but then again, words can hurt more than sticks and stones.

a world champion who has 2 years of top football to play, and not that much trophies to begin with? he'd be a fool to pass out on this opporunity. not all players are dp. he gave us 2 years and helped us to win scudettos. he always gave his all and he'll always be a juventino in my eyes.

Well in the 2 years he's been here, he put Juve ahead of Parma and that speaks of his love for the club. That apart, he had more things to say about the club than Zambrotta who was supposedly all Juventino after 7 long seasons with us.

ABOUT CANNA, I THINK THAT MAYBE HE HAD MANY OPTIONS TO CHOOSE, BUT FOR SOME PLAYERS THE MONEY ARE THE MAIN OCCUPATION,I'M NOT SAYING THAT CANNA DO THAT FOR THE MONEY, BUT I THINK THAT REAL CHAMPION LIKE HE, IS WELL KNOWN AND EVERY WERE HE GOES EVEN IN "SERIE B" WOULD FELL LIKE CHAMPION AND PEOPLE WILL RECOGNIZED HIM AS CHAMPION.REAL TEAMMATE STAYS THE COLLEGUES,NO MATTER WHAT GOES ON AND WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH.!!!!WHAT ABOUT THE FANS????WHAT ABOUT THE PLAYERS WHO ARE STAYING THEY ARE RECIEVING OFFERS TOO?IT'S UNFAAIR FOR THE CLUB!!! MEANS FOR ALL PLAYERS WHO LEFT...

atleast he's not talking crap about the club unlike a particular player who will be on cannavaro's opposite side during the greatest derby in the world.
Real Madrid - Barcelona is NOT a derby.
