yeah but didnt Capello realise this? Mutu may not have done well at Chelsea, but at Parma and in Serie A, he is the man.

But he can't be a left winger, he is a playmaker or support striker, hence, a playmaker at juve as zlatan is the support striker now.

Isnt the next year 2007, Nedved's last year? Correct me if I am wrong. If Ballack comes in, he will take over for Nedved as "playmaker". I think Juventus as always are doing a great job on the transfer market.

Umm...Ballack is a playmaker? Since when? To me, he plays the fulcrum role in midfield. I think he gets labelled as a playmaker because he's got a good shot and he's tall, so he scores in Germany. (Anybody tall can score in Germany.) He seems like an ideal replacement for Emerson, though I don't think he needs replacing at the moment...

i guess by a juventus playmaker, you're talking about someone who can initiate an attack and not necessarily someone who can send a defence splitting pass or dribble pass 3 players to send a through ball.ballack fits the former role nicely.

I would have to disagree. i think ballack is a different style of playmaker, more of a sedate lampard style.

Nedved is often classed as our playmaker but he isnt the classical style is he?

Sorry to interfere...

But Nedved is not near a playmaker.
Would agree though that Ballack is one. Not a perfect or typicall one but still a playmaker.
usually i would agree, but nedved is often regarded as our playmaker. A winger who cut in and controled the play with his high energy football. Back in his prime i would say he was more of a playmaker as e took more responsibility with regards to the play.

We dont have that kind of player...
Most teams have one significant player that almost always are involved in every play. In our team that would be viera...

You can be both defensivly and offensivly minded but no way can you call yourself a playmaker only being involved in 40% of the attacks.
Do you really think nedved belong among these?
Veron
Gerrard
Lampard
Corini
Pirlo

and so on...
One team that really misses out on a playmaker is Man Utd.

Yes i would, neddy on his day would be among that list. Not in the classical style of pirlo but in a similar way to gerrard, whom i find a player of a similar style.

i under stand capello like ballack and messi

http://www.goal.com/it/articolo.aspx?contenutoId=3483

Capello: "Sì, Ballack può servirci" (C.d.Sport)

"E' un giocatore buonissimo. Joaquin?

Lampard is a playmaker now? What the hell? Next, I'll hear that Roy Keane was the world's best playmaker...

There is a difference between a central midfielder, and a playmaker. A playmaker, generally, is one like Zidane or Riquelme. Not a natural goalscorer or a defensive presence, but has the ability to create attacks, make good passes and set up goalscoring oppurtunities.

Players like Lampard and Ballack are good enough at defending that they aren't singleminded. This doesn't detract from their ability, but because they are not focused almost entirely on offensive play, they are not playmakers.

Nedved is a different story altogether. He's not a playmaker, because he doesn't act as a link between midfield and attack. It's hard to say what he is, but I think that "horizontal winger", makes the most sense.

Ian, where have you been all my life?
I've been immersed in a project to alter the world's dependence on fossil fuels and replace it with a dependence on hemp seed oil, and industrial hemp in general. I took some time to actually grow usable hemp and I've been working on breeding hemp plants for specific idustrial applications.

:smoke: That too, of course. ;)

Good to see that there are still some here who I recognise. Did everyone just up and change their name while I was gone?
