I think Conte and Marotta see Berardi as Tevez's long term replacement, Tevez will be gone in maximum two years anyway, he already stated several times his wish to return to Boca.

This makes sense, I see Berardi more as a SS than as a winger. He's got good finishing and excellent positioning and movement.
