He's just not whipping in those crosses we saw against city though. The kind of service that creates clear cut opportunities. Almost every attempt he's made to get an assist gets blocked. He doesn't offer anything cutting inside either. Still a bit early to judge though seeing as the entire team isn't firing. It's not easy being the only attacking outlet in your team.

The only thing I kept thinking when Pereyra got injured was that I didn't want to see him come in. 4-3-1-2 is the formation for us, it is what brought us to the CL final. Cuadrado has no place in that formation.
I don't want to see important players like Morata and Dybala off position and a formation change just so he can play.

We are Cuadrado dependent when he plays. He is a very useful player, but the team gets unbalanced.
I agree, 4312 is the way to go. Allegri has to make things simpler. Play our best CF and best SS together and that's it. Use Pereyra, who succeeded at the AM position last year, as the AM. Marchisio-Khedira-Pogba should make a steady midfield. Use 2 fullbacks who can offer balance and provide width when needed, with Sandro and Sturaro (in the absence of Licht).
Now that Pereyra is out, Cuadrado has to start. But with a healthy Pereyra, he's a much better fit.

With this scheme, transition is much easier.
Our best team last year was with Pirlo out, Marchisio as a DM, Vidal-Pogba CMs, Pereyra AM.
Just try to repeat the closest to what it was. Allegri got lost in the middle of late transactions, little training time, a lot of injuries, options in the squad that don't really fit, like Zaza and Cuadrado.
Play a back 4 with two proper fullbacks who can defend and support the attack.
It would look like this, comparing to our best formation of last season:
14/15 - 15/16
Buffon - Buffon
Licht - Licht
Bonucci - Bonucci
Chiellini - Chiellini
Evra < Sandro (Sandro can provide offense, to me it's an improvement)
Marchisio - Marchisio
Pogba - Pogba
Vidal < Khedira (Compared to last season's Vidal, Khedira has been better)
Pereyra - Pereyra
Tevez > Dybala
Morata - Morata
This would ensue the easiest transition. Only 3 position changes, with improvement in 2 of them (LB, CM) compared to the players last season performance. Tevez would be replaced by Dybala, who obviously is not as good, but has loads of potential and is already showing results.
Just stick with the simple, Allegri. Play as close as a normal RB as you've got now (Caceres or Sturaro), use Pereyra as an AM, let Dybala and Morata be the starters.
Now with Pereyra out, I want to see Pogba tested in that position. If not, change the team for Cuadrado.

Cuadrado has no chance to play CAM. He's the opposite of Pereyra. Pereyra is one of the quickest ball movers on the team. He makes great, quick, short passes in between the lines. He connects the team very well.
Cuadrado... well.. he doesn't do that. His first instinct is always to isolate himself in open space so he can receive a ball at a stand still and initiate a dribble sequence. He very rarely will play a first touch pass. I really see him as the antithesis of a CAM.
If you are looking for a way to play him with Dybala and Morata I think the answer could be in a 4-3-3 with Cuadrado on the left and Dybala on the right. I think it's fine for Cuadrado to play the isolation game on the left because he can cut inside after and pose an actual threat to the defence in the form of a shot on goal. When he's on the right there's no threat. So what if he beats his man on the outside. They know his crosses aren't great. A shot from the left is way more dangerous than a cross from the right.
And if you have Evra or Sandro supporting from LB, there will be space created. Acres probably. And they can cross. But I think if you want to use Cuadrado it either has to be as a traditional winger without the ball (run the line like a train at RWB and the CMs will play you the ball at the end) or you have him cut in from the left.
I think there's more danger in both those scenarios than him playing the RW in a 4-3-3 where he does stand still dribbles and Italian defenders are happy to let him beat them on the outside.
And ya, I just think there's no chance for him to play CAM. Just the discipline alone will prevent it. You can't maraud into random areas as a CAM. You have to make yourself available at all times for the midfield and the strikers. That's why Pereyra plays it well. He will always work to move up the pitch to support strikers or back into defence to support CMs.

I think it's a stretch to have him at SS. Maybe if we are setting up to have 40% possession and want to counter all match. It's rare that we'd do that though.
