Unless the two parties agree to it, sometimes rescissions can be arranged so the employer pays a percentage of the contract's value, maybe 70% or 80%.

When Andrade's contract was recinded it cost Juve €3m in early 2009. He had a contract from summer 2007 to summer 2010 worth €1.98m p/a, so that was pretty much the entire value of his contract that the club paid off, considering he had 1½ years left on it.
