Birmingham City's Jermaine Pennant has been jailed for three months.
The England Under-21 international has been in splendid form since joining Blues on loan from Arsenal but his career will grind to a temporary halt as he sees out his sentence.
Pennant pleaded guilty to three charges of drink-driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.
The incident occurred in January in Aylesbury when the 22-year-old was arrested by police.
After being banned from driving for 16 months back in February 2004, it was suspected that a jail sentence would be the punishment.
After deliberation for an hour at Aylesbury Magistrates Court, it was decided that there was no option but to dish out a custodial sentence due to the seriousness of the charges.
An instant appeal has been launched by the player's lawyer and that will be heard later on Tuesday so there is still the possibility that Pennant will be granted bail.
However, the Court recommended that he should serve at least a month and a half of his sentence.
Pennant, one of only two players to score a hat-trick on their full Premiership debut, has been banned from driving for three years.
Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has already indicated that he will stand by his midfielder.

I hate rules and regulations.

He shouldn't drink and drive though cause he may spill his drink.

That was uncalled for. :(
Depends on the motives. If he's just happy to see another drunk drive punished (especially in a public way, as it'll deter people better), then its' a fair comment.

If he wants to drive, he should go to Lagos during the of season break. There are absolutely no rules there, lots of 'free way' where you can finish your speedometer, and best of all, you can drink any cocktail you want while on the wheel.

Only draw-back for him would be the change from right to left hand drive...

Bah! He'll just use an automatic! :thumb:

More proff of anti-Man Utd antics at the FA...

Manchester United reserve Mads Timm has been sentenced to 12 months in a young-offenders' institute for dangerous driving.
Danish star Timm scored for the reserves on Wednesday, but the 20-year-old now faces jail-time after being held partly responsible for a car crash.

Whereas Pennant was jailed for 3 months, for being drunk in a car that wasnt his, and already banned for driving...
