Jasper, you could take Amtrak from LA to Oakland for about 40$ one way but if you are planning to go to Vegas than Norcal is a little out of your way so I'd understand if you just go to Vegas instead.

I'd offer to put you up for a few nights but I live with my parents and they wouldn't be down for it so you'd have to stay in the rape dungeon.

That seems odd. So is there some sort of a large rural population outside of the wealthy cities that make it a third world country?

No, but its a country that doesn't actually produce anything, it is completely dependent on oil and foreign investment. Plus its educational and health care systems are nothing like its Western counterparts. Even though it spends a lot of money on education and health care, it isn't really managed properly.

To be honest, the term "third world country" is kind of arbitrary and largely subjective. As far as i know, it isn't based on any consistent or stable criteria.

But i think its fair to say, the UAE cannot be compared to countries like Western European countries, USA, Canada, Japan etc.

Well yea all the term "third world" really means is that they weren't allied with either the U.S. or the U.S.S.R. during the Cold War even though it is now used colloquially to describe "poor" nations.
