The Delle Alpi was always empty in no small part because of the terrible visibility though. Don't you just love the roaring 80's way of doing things : "let's build a 70.000 seater for the WC, with a running track around it because the state promised us funds if we add one : we'll worry about the poor conception only after weeds start growing on that track no one will ever use."
I remember in the earlly 90's our stadium was almost always filled, with 50,000 average attendance for every game. Things changed alot in the last 20 years not just in turin but in all over italy.
I think 40.000 seats are good because:
-the stadium will be sold out at a lot of games. We would fill 60.000 places perhaps 1-2 times a year. That would not make sense.
-the atmosphere ist much better and intensive in smaller stadiums. It makes a difference if 10.000 people sing and chant in a stadium with 40.000 seats or with 60-70.000 seats. (p.a. atmosphere at Anfield road or highburry is/was much better than in a new and bigger stadium)
I don't think so, who's law would that be? If you buy the sponsorship, I would think you could name it, "Stadio Non Delle Alpi con Esperaza Matuzalem Sacknuts" if one wanted.
It's not like he is being canonized by the Catholic Church or something.
If I am not mistaken Napoli tried to change their stadium's name after Maradona but they weren't allowed. I think I read somewhere that a person had to have been dead for at least 10 years to have the stadium named after them.
