Bruce Dickinson's voice is pussy like Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden is not heavy at all and they're a metal band.

So please enlighten me on what the good kind and bad kind of metal happen to be, because groups like Iron maiden and the like are direct influences to groups such as Metallica and other metal bands that you happen to love.

I'm done with this thread. 1 dude is a close minded metalhead the other thinks dickenson is a better songwriter than Hetfield.
wut. You're way more of a metalhead than me.

Mama Said has excellent Chord progression, so in terms of song writing it's not worse in any way.

I could have sworn that Harris and Murray are the primary songwriters for Iron Maiden.

Rush are one of the last bands that you would call Metal, per se.

Yet, metallica, Dream Theater, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Rage against the machine have all been influenced by them.

There are so many genres of metal, that you can't just box yourself into one type.

Yes, Sheik is making the point that Dickenson's solo material proves that he is a better song writer than Hetfield. Which prompted me to call him a fuckin idiot

But you're close minded when it comes to metal. That's the difference.

    Heaviness can't be measured.
But I don't like most metal so how can I be a metalhead? I'm not close minded as I say I know what I don't like. I've listened to a lot of different types of metal and most of it I don't like. A lot of it is just too cliché

Yeah it can, is poker face heavier than master of puppets? no. holy wars heavier than hallowed be thy name? yes.

I could have sworn that Harris and Murray are the primary songwriters for Iron Maiden.

Actually, if you appreciate Prog Rock, Rush is pretty damn awesome.

All of those time changes, complex chords and arrangements that a lot of metal bands use, Rush were one of the first to incorporate that.

We're having 2 different discussions here. One is about Bruce's songwriting. The other is about how heavy Metallica is compared to Maiden. James picked RTTH which is not really representative of Maiden's style. I'm just showing him that picking 2 songs out of a catalogue of 100s of songs is not the most ideal argument. That's why I chose Mama Said, which isn't representative of Metallica's style.

You are correct. They are different kind of metal bands. Metallica is a mix of Heavy and thrash metal, whereas Maiden is a mix of hard rock and heavy metal.

But the fact is that Bruce is a better songwriter. He's more versatile, and showcases it both on his solo albums as well as with IM.

But these facts that you state are based on personal preference, which is fine. But in turn, the opinions of others who don't agree with you should be respected as well

I love Rush. Was imitating ID when I wrote that. I'm with you on this one.

Don't forget that Smith/Harris/Dickinson have churned out some awesome songs too.

Yes, he is a better songwriter. Just like Metallica's main man is James, Harris is Maiden's. Harris takes up most of the songwriting, but Bruce has some great ones too, and his solo albums are a testament to his songwriting and versatility.

In this case, it's they who aren't respecting my opinion. I never said James was shit. I'm just saying Bruce is a better songwriter overall.

This is like comparig Eddie Vedder solo to Jerry Cantrell & Alice in Chains. But Vedder >>>>>>> Dickinson. Vedder is actually good.

Yeah I definitely don't consider Rush to be metal.
