Well, to counter your point, eringi, How will DP regain his form if he doesn't get any minutes? Even if it's a Coppa Italia match, the man needs to play.

I'm not sure if he only plays once in a while will do it for him. And there is the problem that Juve faces. Is it a bad problem? Not really, because thankfully, they have players like DV and Miccoli who can step in and play like frist teamers.

This will be REALLY interesting in January when Trez comes back, and DP is in full form.
Well the thing is that the coach can see these things in practice, it is not just through games that a player regains his form and Del Piero is more than capable of regaining his form. he is a great player and i am sure he will be back in top form, it is just unfortunate that these injuries always happen to him at the time when he is on top form.
Anyway, we should all be very excited about Miccoli's form and not try to belittle him by saying that he shouldn't be played because so far to me has proven than he more than deserves a starting place. Appiah was playing well at the beginning of the year but now i think it is time for Maresca to step in...i think we are a blessed team because no other team except Chelsea really has a headache as to which players to play in many different positions.... our defense is the only non-depth area, otherwise we are fully equipped

I didn't know that anybody was belittling Miccoli. That doesn't make sense at all. He's playing the best football of his life right now.

One of the reasons our teams are successful are our ability to maintain players who BLEED for our team. The Del Piero's, Maldini's, Ferrara's, Costacurta's, Tacchinardi's, Gattuso's...without these players we are both "Inter".
:howler: that was proper funny!! I dont care who is the better miccoli or Piero what matters is proving it by perfomance. You can compare Miccoli with Piero from 94/95 95/96 96/97 97/98 aged 24 in 98 which I think Miccoli is now but there is no sense in that.Miccoli is just getting started and this is his time to play 1st team football for a club like Juventus. I want DP to play every single game and score all the time, but this is real and Piero needs to fight for his place. There is no doubt in my mind that he'll be soon in the starting line up but if Miccoli is doing a good job then why not play them together? Trez is injured but he will be back after the winter break or around that time. Del Piero 100% form still offers much less running than miccoli and DV so a DP and Trez patnership doesnt look like our best duo no more. I so badly want to see Miccoli and Del Piero. Peace

Don't worry, nobody is underestimating Miccoli's importance: the future belongs to him. that's the way things go.
but he has to confirm his skills and has yet to work hard to be compared to players like Del Piero or Baggio...He's got infinite potential in my opinion, and obvious classe, but it's somehow too soon to give him greater responsibilities than he can bear

I don't think he'll ever be a Del Piero or Baggio, those two started out being spectacular at a younger age than Miccoli. However, I think that Fabrizio will be a very fine player for us.

Dp is DP....micco is not yet where DP is, still a lot to improve IMO. but the kid is very interesting to watch

btw, reminds me...i saw some reporters quizzing DP bout Euro history. i cannot forget the look on his face when the guy asked "who scored the golden goal in Euro 2000, and against which team...?"

LOL....DP was actually killing the guy with his eyes....:D but he still answered that question tho

Anyway seems DP is taking the criticism to heart and he has scored in the last three games he has played so he should keep it up and this is why i like the competition everybody has otherwise they will start slacking... Well Done Lippi!!!!

I think he cares more about fans wanting him to stay than other traitors wishin' he was out. What's important is that he comes back to his best.

Greetings from a benevolent rossonero to the unlucky Juve-supporting members of this community.

Like many, I used to consider Alessandro Del Piero aka Godot as the best thing happening to italian football since Gianni Rivera. That's until he got injured in that cursed 1998 CL final against Real Madrid, embarked on the plane for France anyway where he played an utterly anonymous World Cup. Like it or not, the pre-France 98 Del Piero (the one that most football pundits at the time saw as the only alternative to Ronaldo's omnipotence) has gone awol. After two years spent in the wilderness (notably because of a major injury which he needed a whole season to recover from), Del Piero did seem to somehow re-surface just in time for Euro 2000, where he notoriously threw the victory down the drain in the final against the frogs by twice incredibly failing to score the 2-0 that would have made us the de facto Masters of Europe.

Since then, Godot did manage to carve out a place for himself in the Football World. His talent remains unquestioned and unquestionable, but he seems to have developed a habit to injure himself just when he appears to have reached his optimal form, which often leads him to be absent or unprepared in the crucial moments of a tournament. I would find this very frustrating as a Juve fan and I actually do find it extremely irritating as a Squadra fan, hence my hope to see Cassano supplant Del Piero with the azzurri rather sooner than later.

Finally, allow me to kindly disagree with Adrian : the Miccoli/Del Piero rivalry does not compare to the Del Piero/Baggio struggle of 94. Fisrt off, Del Piero was 20 back then while Miccoli will soon turn 25. Secondly, whereas Del Piero was regarded as the next big thing at the time, Miccoli today is just a talented player in a talented team. Thirdly, Lippi had set his sights to transforming the then Baggio-addicted Juventus into an 11 players team that could rely on a big variety of options. He did succeed in doing this, but Baggio had to pay a very high price for it, as he was exiled to Milan at end of the season (with little success) and still bears a lot of resentment towards Marcello to this day. I doubt the same thing will happen with Miccoli, who in my opinion will remain one of Lippi's favourite trump cards and Del Piero's appointed sub. A bit like young Zola used to be Maradona's disciple at Napoli - with all due proportions of course.

Anyway, time for me to dismiss. Congratulations to the hosts for this forum, and, until next time : FORZA MITICO MILAN.

it's so ironic, that many want to drop del piero when he's in bad form, when the only way to regain form is to play matches in the first place.keep faith, people.it should take more than a few sub par games to dislodge del piero.

    surely a legend deserves better?

Godot is one of the nicknames that the late Gianni Agnelli coined for Del Piero. Actually the Avvocato had first chosen to nickname him Pinturicchio, after the Renaissance painter who started his career as Leonardo's aid. Since Agnelli had already chosen to call Baggio "Leonardo", he thought that Del Piero could be considered as Roby's young promising aid. As you can imagine, Del Piero never liked that name.

Anyway, following Baggio's departure from Juve and especially because of Del Piero's prolonged eclipse after WC 1998, Agnelli thought of a more appropriate nickname : Godot. Godot is a character from a Samuel Beckett play called "Waiting for Godot", depicting two characters waiting for a person called Godot, who of course will never arrive, as the two characters literally die of waiting. I find this to be a great brainwave from Agnelli, as Del Piero can indeed be compared to a guest that everybody is waiting for in vain.

It's not arguable because that wait DID end two seasons ago. Del Piero will never get back to his 96-98 form, but he has done well in the last two terms, helping us to two consecutive Scudetti.

    of course he has,what was i thinking:D;)

anyways,i do like the nickname godot because if you've watched the play you'd feel that this "godot" is really some mysterious, almighty being, kinda like a god,if you like.although he never really appears,i felt he was right there, watching the two people the whole time.

just as del piero has never really left.
