Tirrenia (Pisa) will probably host the Under 21 National team coached by Claudio Gentile starting Saturday, August 31. The team will begin its preparation for the first European Championship qualifying match against Azerbaijan.
The match will be played in Baku on Friday, September 6, at the Shafa stadium at 11:00 pm local time (8:00 pm Italian time). The Italian team will have two daily workouts in order to prepare for the match.
The team will leave for Baku on Wednesday, September 4, from the Pisa airport. The following day, the team will have a short workout at the Baku stadium.
In spite of the loss against Germany in the friendly match played last August 20 in Grosseto, Gentile is optimistic about the team's chances of qualifying. The session in Tirrenia will be used to improve the athletes' condition and teamwork, aspects that were not at top level during the friendly match played in Tuscany.
The head coach Gentile will probably announce the roster on Wednesday, August 28.
In addition to Azerbaijan, the Italians will play their 2004 European championship qualifying matches against Yugoslavia, Wales and Finland
