Italian Supercup date set Friday 5 August, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Italian Supercup between Juventus and Inter will be played at the Stadio Delle Alpi on August 20, announced the FIGC today.

This trophy is the Italian version of the Charity Shield and every year kicks off the new season with a challenge between the Scudetto holders and the Coppa Italia winners.

Juventus conquered the title and the Nerazzurri lifted the Coppa in May, but their record in this competition differs wildly. Inter have only ever won one Supercoppa, while the Bianconeri have already triumphed four times.

The game is traditionally played in the home stadium of the Scudetto winners, so the Delle Alpi will host on August 20 with a 9pm local time kick-off – 8pm in the UK.

This match could well represent the Inter debut of new signing Luis Figo, as he was not on the list of players eligible for the Champions' League preliminary round.

I'm surprised it's taken this late for them to schedule/announce this. Should be a very interesting match and our first real test of the new squad.

Inter are becoming a little bit annoying now, after their latest transfers they have more depth in their squad, if Mancini is able to use them well, then definitly they will be difficult to beat. Hopefully JUVE will be on top form, CRRAAASSSHHHH them guys, Forza JUVE

inter's strength for the moment is only on paper, even if they win this game, it wont be terribly significant, let's see how they do when the real action starts.

I fully expect Inter will probably win this one, but as stated already thats not particularly relevant. I'd liek to see our defence performing a bit better thouh.. we've been scoring enough but conceding far too many against inferior opponents. Inter will hopefully start like a house on fire then gradually fall away over the course of the season as per normal.. but I do sense a bigger hreat this year.. not sure why?!

I wounder why the Italian federation makes this match (Italian Supercup) played on the turff of the holder of the Scudetto , it's kinda unfair  , apart from JUVE-INTER ofcourse which will be played on the Dellialpi :D , i think it decreases the popularity of this match. It should be Played on a neutral ground like Germany and England, i think it would be more fun and competetive, wut do u think ??

Eurosport no longer have any rights to show italian football... Their contract ran out at the end of the season and has not been renewed...

All italian football rights in the uk are now owned by setanta... Who will split their coverage between setanta 2 and they have done a deal to show highlights and the odd game on bravo
