Marcelo Salas will replace injured David Trezegeut in Juve's first official match of the season, the Italian Super Cup to be played in Tripoli. “I won the it twice when I played with Lazio. The first time here in Turin against Juventus, the second time against Inter in Rome. We care a lot about this competition. We want to start the season with a victory."

Tripoli? We’re curious to live this experience that will surely be peculiar, also because we’ll fly there with the Parma team, in the same airplane. Surely it won’t be an easy match, we know the Emilian team very well. A guy to look after carefully? Di Vaio”.

"It's always important to win, and we want to start immediatly with this Supercup". Pavel Nedved is ready to start the new season like he ended the last one, with a victory.

Before being played ,Juventus-Parma is already in history. For the first time, infact, an official italian competition is played in Africa. A new experience and an important message for Pavel: "I don't know what can happen over there, but Juventus supporters are everywhere and i think we'll have attendance on our side. Anyway i'm pleased to go abroad showing football: it's a message of peace".

There are reports that Sunday’s Italian SuperCup match between Juventus and Parma will be postponed.

The showdown between the Scudetto winners and Coppa Italia holders was set to be played tomorrow evening in Tripoli, Libya.

However, it has emerged that the flight to take the teams and referees to the North African nation has not yet landed at Milan’s Malpensa Airport.

The squads were meant to leave Italy at 10am GMT, but latest reports suggest the take-off time has been delayed by at least four hours.

Libyan news agency Jana has reported that further delays could see the match postponed to another date or even cancelled entirely.

“We are at the airport waiting to set off,” assured Juventus press officer Enrica Tarchi. “No-one has told us any different.”

It’s likely that the delays will cancel the planned press conference and training session ahead of tomorrow’s game.

The Italian version of the Charity Shield was set to be played in Libya as traditionally this tie does not attract large audiences in the Peninsula.

In 1993 the Supercup was played in America as a taster for USA ’94, while this summer a request from Libyan leader Colonel Gheddafi – who owns shares in Juventus – was accepted.

    Football Italia

Maybe there's a chance that this whole Tripoli trip will be canceled and they'll play in Italy :cheesy:

The result does matter if we lose even if we outplay Parma! I just wanna see a solid team showing none of this losing the ball cheaply and spending the whole match trying 2 get the ball! The Alessandro in Rivaldo's role is BS. If Alex is ever going to get his lethal striking back its gonna help if he goalhangs gets a few ugly
goals then scores a few close rangers then from the penaly spot, from the D, 25yrd belters and the half way chips:D

    /24/2002. BACKGROUND

Unusually the traditional curtain raiser will be played three weeks before the season actually starts.

For Juventus this has been a fairly quiet summer. There has been much speculation over the future of Edgar Davids, but the Dutchman now looks certain to remain for this season at least. Alessandro Nesta and Fabio Cannavaro have been linked with moves, but neither will be arriving. Marcello Lippi has no real need to dip into the transfer market in the way that Milan and Inter have done, so his side have stayed out of the headlines and gone about their business quietly.

Even though the Bianconeri haven't flaunted the cash, the signing of Mauro Camoranesi is an inspired one indeed. The Argentine was a rare highlight in Verona's amazing fall from grace last season and looks a solid purchase for reasonable money.

So can Juve pick up where they left off last season? Well, much will depend on whether 24-goal top scorer David Trezeguet can steer clear of injury. The early signs aren't promising although the club have denied stories that he'll miss the first five months of the season with a knee injury.

In defense there are no real question marks, while in midfield much is expected of young Matteo Brighi who enjoyed a fine season with Bologna in the previous campaign. Alessandro Del Piero's strike-partner for this match will be Marcelo Salas who has finally recovered from the knee injury that wrecked his debut season at the Delle Alpi. Things look good for the Old Lady and they will once again be the bookies' favourites to lift Lo Scudetto.

These are exciting times for Parma also. While many of the players have been quick to acknowledge what a young squad the Gialloblu have this season, there seems to be a genuine belief that the kids can achieve big things this campaign.

Marco Di Vaio just seems to get better and better by the season, and he now as a strike partner of real quality in the young Brazilian Adriano.

There is a distinct Brazilan flavour about Parma this season, with Matuzalem having arrived from Piacenza, Alex returning from Palmeiras and the established left-back Junior expected to play a big part this season. Lets not forget that it was his goal that handed Parma the Coppa Italia against Juve last season.

New coach Cesare Prandelli has had to cope with the loss of Fabio Cannavaro to Inter but there is still life without the Italian international. Even with him in the side, the Gialloblu conceded 47 goals last season and only avoided relegation with a game to spare.

    PROBABLE LINE-UPS

    Juventus (4-4-2): 1 Buffon, 21 Thuram, 2 Ferrara, 4 Montero, 24 Moretti, 27 Brighi, 3 Tacchinardi, 20 Baiocco, 11 Nedved, 10 Del Piero, 9 Salas.

    Parma (4-4-2): 1 Frey, 2 Diana, 5 Bonera, 21 Ferrari, 3 Falsini, 8 Lamouchi, 29 Donati, 10 Nakata, 7 Marchionni, 9 Adriano, 20 Di Vaio.
