Italian Serie: The striker tandem dominates (6 Viewers)

The Italian Serie was littered with deadly striker tandems administering a one- two knockout punch over their opposition.

Juventus made it back to top flight action on the strength of Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet combining for 34 goals.

Inter won the Scudetto with Crespo and Ibrahamovic contributing 29 goals. Lazio climbed to third place with Tommaso Rocchi and Goran Pandev scoring 27 goals. Fiorentina after its point deduction following Calciopoli finished strongly in the fifth position with Adrian Mutu and Luca Toni tearing down the opposing defenses with 32 goals. Atalanta's Cristiano Doni and Riccardo Zampagna and Udinese's Vincenzo Iaquinta and Antonio Di Natale combining for 24 and 25 goals, respectively, helping their clubs finish in the top ten.

In contrast, only Premiership champs Man Utd and to a lesser extent Tottenham enjoyed this sort of success. Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney's 31 goals scored almost a third of Man U's goals while Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane combined for 23 goals securing Tottenham's UEFA spot. Arsenal's striker pair Henry and Van Persie in their limited appearance managed to score 21 goals but injuries curtailed their season. They were probably good for another 15 goals.

Chelsea's attack went through Drogba who finished with 20 goals just like Roma's went through Totti's 26 goals. Both clubs finished second in their leagues. Milan's goals just like Liverpool came from a contribution of a number of players.
