Rizzoli: 'Bonucci didn’t headbutt me!’
By Football Italia staff

Referee Nicola Rizzoli reiterates that Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci “did not headbutt me”.

The centre-back was booked in the Derby della Mole against Torino for protesting about the award of a penalty.

Following the match, a still was circulated on the internet which appeared to show Bonucci putting his head on the referee, though video shows that wasn’t the case.

While Rizzoli has been clear that the Bianconeri man didn’t headbutt him, Gonzalo Higuain’s suspension for pushing Massimiliano Irrati has brought the “incident” to light again.

“Bonucci didn’t headbutt me,” Rizzoli reiterated in a statement.

“I was the one who pushed him, to take him away from the additional referee. The player simply went overboard in his protestations.

“There was no head-to-head, the images don’t show the reality of what happened. If he had headbutted me, then I wouldn’t have shown only a yellow.

“There is too much aggravation and lack of knowledge of the rules in the world of football, we as referees must hold our hands up when we fail to improve the culture of football, the others - players, managers, Coaches and journalists - should do the same.

“Higuain? I think everyone who plays in Serie A should take into account that they’re setting an example for those at the bottom of the pyramid, the risk of blind, gratuitous violence is always around the corner.

“Not because of that incident, I’m talking in a broader sense about the violent actions of many players.

“I’ve seen a video where there’s unprecedented violence from a player in the Seconda Categoria [eight-tier] where the player who has just been sent-off aims a kick at the referee.

“Those who play in Serie A must take into account those at the bottom of the pyramid.”

Its safe to assume that without Higuain in this 4 upcoming games....The scudetto is practically ours?.

Because i dont see them keeping it up...much less cutting the gap...without their main man.

Well, that's actually a pretty solid statement from Rizzoli imo. But I do think Bonucci's behaviour was very wrong. I understand Rizzoli draws the line at any actual physical contact and I could definitely agree with that, but then any touching should result in a straight red card imo. These days you have too many situations like Higuain's where the player is not sent off.

I expected 3-4 games for Higuain so it's not a huge surprise. I suppose it gives Napoli something extra to feel victimised about, like they needed any ammunition. Pathetic bunch of fans either way.

As for Higuain's brother/agent -

next 4 matches for nipples:
- hellas (home)
- inter (away)
- bologna (h)
- roma (a)

juve to be crowned champions against carpi?
All of those games are rather difficult I'd say. On paper Hellas is the weakest but just yesterday they won away to Bologna. They'll be relegated most probably but the picked up some for lately. I'm pretty much 100% sure of Roma taking points off Nipples. Bologna is never easy and inter merda are usually useless but this time they could get something out of it, hopefully they do.

money well spent

Just found a lovely piece from fif, the talk is about their situation, incompetent management:

Solution: Extend Mancini's contract and sign some more expensive quick fixes.

Ah, isn't it shocking that we aren't getting that the third spot? Who would have thought so. We are lucky that Lazio is having a shit season and that Milan's momentum has stopped. Because honestly, if the Serie A was not medicore, even the EL spot would be unreachable for this average team.

This club has no future and is pretty much done as a top European club. Now we can only hope that Thohir will be available to pay the debts because I feel that the worst is yet to come.
The acceptance phase :D

Gabbiadini could go on a goal rampage.
lol. I rate him.. but he would need to do the unthinkable to keep that team afloat, and he hasnt done that in all his napoli stint.

I think napoli is GG

Its very true. I think their worst is yet to come.. not because they suck as a team... but because their finances are shid and pretty sure tohir is regretting buying inter. IMO he will look to sell it at the first offer...because that team is a money sink and he was unprepared for the daunting task of getting that team to a top level again. He underestimated how much they sucked on all departments.

Not true. Rizzoli has dementia. Besides he hasn't seen the replays. What does he know?

I'd have been fine with a yellow for Bonucci, anything above that would've been way overboard though, unless Leo insulted him in any way.

Yeah, sending him off would have been harsh. It's more that I'm disappointed with Bonucci's conduct in that instance really. With Higuain the problem is that in recent years this behaviour has become more and more acceptable. So it's sort of weird to suddenly ban him for four games. 10 years ago people would be surprised if he wasn't banned for 15.

How are you still comparing the two? Rizzoli says Bonucci made no physical contact, made no insults, and was just protesting too much, so he pushed him away and dismissed those protests with a warning.

Higuain pushed the ref, and levelled multiple insults at him. 3 match ban for sure. At a bare minimum, according to every standard seen with such incidents this year and in previous years. Totally in line with Valero's ban last year and Khedira's 2 match ban for insults and Dzeko's 2 match ban for insults.

Every precedent set said this should be a minimum 3 match ban because physical contact + insults.
