Just realized Roma had a peasant's mercato. They basically had all their incomings on paid loan deals so far, with only one permanent signature of a kid they already had him on board earlier. Oh ya Naingollan as well.

Rüdiger, Digne, Dzeko are decent signings.
they are improving both defense and attack and they kept their best players.
not a bad mercato.
+ loan with buyout deals are good imo.

Rudiger was injured for half of last season, Digne was benched by 33 year old Maxwell, and Dzeko scored 6 goals in 31 matches.



FFS, Dzeko had as bad a season, if not worse than Llorente did, and everyone on Tuz wants Llorente gone. People overrate Roma signings by so much. Sure, they could turn out good, but all three of them are coming off very mediocre seasons.

Some loan plus buyout , maybe 1 or 2 is fine, when you are cash strapped or you got players you are not sure off , but not everyone they go after. It's a sign of a small club mentality, and a team that has uncertainty over them, comes next summer. I'll pass .

has nothing to do with being a small club imo.

loan with option to buy means you have one season to find out if the
player is good enough/fits your team before you actually buy him.
if not, it was only a loan. if yes, you buy him. i like it.

and dzeko is of course an upgrade upfront, but their biggest "signing" imo is that

That's where I agree with you. Unlike every other recent year, this year they haven't sold anyone from their starting XI. Continuity is good for them. They still need another CM to replace Strootman, and a backup CF for Dzeko, plus a couple more defenders as they are very thin at the back. But the win for them is keeping all their starters. It helps that Pjanic was very inconsistent and relatively poor over the last half of last season. There did not seem to be much interest in him. Finishing the Radja deal was a coup, as was the hilarious sale of youngsters to Milan. But... The purchases themselves are a little underwhelming imo.

Lazio don't have the depth to play in multiple competitions. If Biglia or De Vrij get injured they're completely stuffed.
