Well hopefully all these excuses prove correct. After all France and Portugal are closer to Italy in the Coefficient then Italy catching Germany. One positive is Italy has more teams remaining in both tournaments then all three of these leagues

Basically, German teams have dominated the EL for the last few years and as teams gain as many points in the EL than in the CL, the Bundesliga got ahead of Italy.

Basically, Italy isn't catching Germany any time soon and Germany will soon overtake Spain.

Italy is pretty safe from France and Portugal at the moment, especially if a few of Napoli/Inter/Milan and Lazio/Udinese progress further in the knockout stage.

Clubs only. There is a coefficient for the National teams also, Italy is currently 4th

Check season 2007/08. That season won't count from next year and the countries will lose those points. When you deduct the pts from that season, Italy will have almost the same number of pts with France.

But being 4th, 5th or 6th is the same anyway.

I don't get that chart. It says 3 teams from Italy get into the EL, but the Serie A wiki page only shows 2, fifa12 only has 2 spots, and so does espn soccernet. So do we get 2 EL spots, or 3?

I expect Serie A to end the season with at least 2 points more than France, if not more. France has Marseille and Lyon in the knockout stage, Italy has Napoli, Inter, Milan, Udinese and Lazio.

I hate Inter but it would be best if they were to win against Marseille, for the coefficient. I hope Apoel eliminates Lyon also.

3, definitely.

4th, 5th and Coppa winner go to EL. If the Coppa winner and Coppa finalist are already qualified for Europe (by being in top 5 in serie A) then 6th place will also play EL.
