Collina explains handball decisions
Monday 23 February, 2009
Pierluigi Collina has defended Italian referees and clarified that not every handball necessarily constitutes a foul.

Last week Inter striker Adriano scored the opening goal in the Milan derby by heading the ball on to his hand.

Referee Roberto Rosetti gave the goal as it appeared unintentional, but some felt it should have been disallowed.

Adriano was at the centre of another handball controversy this weekend, when he set up Esteban Cambiasso to score Inter's opening goal against Bologna.

The Brazilian once again headed the ball on to his hand and it found Cambiasso, who promptly fired it past Francesco Antonioli.

“All the referees are looking to improve their work,” Collina told Radio Anch'io Sport. “As for the latest handballs that have been spoken about a lot, I can say that the rule is clear in leaving it up to the referee's discretion.

“There has to be intent,” Collina explained. “Therefore a handball is only a foul when there is intent. It's not easy to establish that on the pitch.

“We need to observe the movement of the arm, the line of the hands and the technique of the player.

“Football is so fast these days it makes such valuations ever more complicated,” Collina insisted before turning to the Adriano incidents.

“In both cases the touches are imperceptible so I don't feel we are talking about a foul worthy of suspension.”

Collina later discussed the prospect of an orange card, which would be shown when a red card is deemed excessive and a yellow card too lenient.

He is also willing to consider UEFA President Michel Platini's proposal, which would see two referees on the pitch at the same time.

After a glorious career as a referee, Collina now chooses the match officials for games in Serie A and B.

Yeah, let's also bring an Orange card to facilitate the refs job.
Just apply the damn rules.

Found this on BBC...
"Who gets the most TV cash? This is a tricky one to assess because Serie A and the Premier League conduct their broadcasting deals differently.

The Premier League sells its TV rights as a collective then divides the revenues between the 20 teams.

The clubs occupying the Premier League during the 2007/2008 season received a guaranteed £22.8m from TV revenue.

On top of that clubs were paid prize money relative to their final position in the league and, if that was not enough, the 20 clubs received income from the live matches in which they were featured.

Unsurprisingly, title winners Manchester United came out on top with £49.3m.

Since 2007, Serie A clubs have been handed the responsibility to sell their own broadcasting rights to designated channels in their own country - and it's difficult to obtain details of the deals made by the top clubs.

However, by 2010, Italy's top league will revert back to collective selling.

Forty percent of the TV revenue will go to all Serie A clubs, while 30% will be based on final-table standing and 30% on fan following, both on a sliding scale.

It is projected that a package worth 900m euros (£798m) a season would mean a club like Juventus could rake in roughly 87m euros a year (£77m) - which would dwarf United's current TV income."
Anyone heard of this before?

3 draws would be heaven. I think they'll draw one minimum. Their away game to Genoa will be really tough one.
Let's hope that Milito, Palladino, Sculli and Criscito to give them a hard time.

I predict Palladino and Sculli to score, with Sculli being sent off for being an egg-head headbutting Zlatan in the nose after being provoked by the Swede's tricks.

haha, the orange card idea is idiotic! what happens after getting one? what do you have to do to get a red card when you're on an orange?

what i'm saying is, how to you go from orange to red? how does it differ from a yellow in practical consideration
The orange card will replace the yellow and the yellow becomes a one step lower card. You would need three yellow cards to get a red.
