Giampaolo: Refs always help giants
Saturday 20 December, 2008
Siena Coach Marco Giampaolo is “finding it difficult to accept this defeat” and thought referees aiding Inter was part of a wider trend.
“I am finding it difficult to accept this defeat, because we were clearly penalised,” said the tactician after a 2-1 loss sealed by Douglas Maicon’s offside goal.
“It’s true we have been complimented by everyone, including Inter, but that’s not how you grow and improve.
“The small clubs are congratulated by the big sides, but it is useless because at the end of the day we’re the ones who were beaten.
“It is not easy to accept this result, but I must take into account the verdict – however unjust – on the field.”
Jose Mourinho also admitted Inter “did not deserve to win” and praised Siena’s overall superior performance.
Giampaolo has lost his unbeaten record on home turf, where up until this evening no opponent had scored from open play.
“Paradoxically, these games are the easiest because you have nothing to lose against the big clubs, whereas the pressure is on in relegation dogfights.”
