Alen, that 'Simply the Best' Rangers av is probably more apt than you realise.

Only Rangers could alter the song 'Simply the Best' to include 'Fuck the Pope and the IRA.'

Bigoted fuckers.

Blog: Power League?

It’s one of the tightest Serie A races in years, but Giancarlo Rinaldi wonders whether that shows strength or weakness

It is the best of seasons, it is the worst of seasons. I can't make up my mind about this Serie A campaign. It is either one of the finest I have ever seen – or one of the poorest in living memory.

On the positive side is the competitive nature of the League. I can't remember so many teams being in contention at the top in the last 20 years. And it is a similar case at the bottom end of the table where a real good scrap is developing. All very healthy, you might say.

But, scratch the surface, and that is when the doubts start to develop. Inter, for example, have looked laboured and lucky in many of their matches. They couldn't even beat Anorthosis for heaven's sake. It took them way into the latter stages of the game to squeeze past Udinese on Sunday. And they are at the top of the table.

Milan, too, were held back by Lecce at the weekend and have struggled to put together a consistent run. To my mind the fact that they keep finding a place in the team for Ronaldinho speaks volumes.

Could you imagine him – in his current form and condition – even getting on the bench for the Rossoneri in the days of Fabio Capello or Arrigo Sacchi? And yet, in this season’s Serie A, not only does he play but he gets among the goals.

I have similar reservations about Juve although at least they have two cracking results against Real Madrid to their credit. Look beyond the Alex Del Piero free-kicks, however, and you have to question their quality.

Paolo De Ceglie, Cristian Molinaro, Momo Sissoko, Marco Marchionni and the likes are all good players but hardly world beaters. How would you rate them against, say, Ciro Ferrara, Moreno Torricelli, Didier Deschamps and Vladimir Jugovic? Not favourably, I reckon.

While the fact that Udinese, Lazio, Fiorentina, Genoa and Catania are in the upper reaches makes for excitement it is easy to pick holes in any of their squads.

Maybe I am just never happy, after all I used to moan and groan when one team ran away with the title. But I just have this worry that the balanced nature of the League might also be a sign that the overall quality has diminished just a little.
