Perrotta: Money talks...

While Roma deny receiving a new £220m offer from George Soros, Simone Perrotta warns football has become dominated by big spending clubs.

Today’s newspaper reports claimed Inner Circle Sports magnate Soros had sent a letter to the Giallorossi upping his takeover bid to £220m.

That would be £150m to the Sensi family’s Italpetroli company plus another £70m to the various minority shareholders who own 33 per cent of the club.

Only a few hours after the publication of this story, Roma released a statement denying they had received any letter or communication.

Some sections of the support have come out in favour of the takeover bid, believing more money would enable them to compete on the transfer market and therefore in Serie A and Europe too.

“The English clubs have a stratospheric economic power and it will be increasingly difficult to compete with them for international titles,” warned midfielder Perrotta.

“Every year they sign the top players on the market by spending sums the rest of the continent cannot match.

“Economic power means a great deal in football now and allows them to take the best players in circulation. This is why the English sides are dominating in Europe right now.”

In a year when three of the four Champions League semi-finalists are from the Premiership, it is no coincidence that half the richest clubs in the world are based in Britain.

According to a recent survey by Forbes, Manchester United are the richest side worth $1,800m, while Roma are in 11th place at $434m

Perrotta, who was born in Ashton and spent the first five years of his life in England, hopes that won’t necessarily be the case in the peninsula.

“I don’t think Inter are so superior to us and we have proved that we greatly reduced the gap separating the teams last season, not just in terms of points.

“From Christmas onwards it was clear there wasn’t that much between us and compared to last year the values of the two squads more or less balanced out.”

I was faster then tuttomercato.

http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/?action=read&id=102454

But looks like Roma said they still didn't get any offer.

I think they are waiting for the end of the season to announce it officially.Until then we'll probably hear 100 different and new stories.
Maybe, Dule. But the rumour isn't that concrete either. I remember last season when there was a strong rumour about selling Juventus to an Italian businessman and many of us here on the forums were waiting the official announcement of the bargain, then nothing happened.

I think this will happen 95%

Franco is just too old and they don't have money to continue considering their debts over 250mln euros.I mean, they probably could but they'd probably sell some good players.Fans want new boss knowing that Rosella is real bitch.I doubt they are going to stay for another year.

Next season will be interesting.

We'll buy some new players and make our team even stronger. If happens,Roma will be totally deferent team.Their first budget could go up to 100mln euros and plus they'll get new stadium.Milan is going to look totally different as well. They'll get rid of a lot oldies and get new, good players. They already started with signing Flamini(overpaid but still...).

Dule, you have a very bright imagination regarding next season's Serie A, it seems. But seriously if this happens, we'll be on the verge of one of the most competitive Serie A seasons, I agree.

I haven't frankly decided about our third gold star, whether it would be right or wrong to have it when we win the next awaited scudetto. We're stripped of two scudetti which we deserved, and at the same time I won't like people to remind us everytime they saw the third star with the Calciopoli. I dislike just mentioning it.

For the meantime, I prefer a first silver star. :pint:
