Cassano To Miss Sampdoria-Parma

On-loan Real Madrid striker Antonio Cassano has picked up an injury that will almost certainly prevent him from playing for Sampdoria against Parma on Sunday...

Antonio Cassano has twisted his left thigh in training and, barring a miracle recovery, will miss Sunday's encounter between Sampdoria and Parma at the Luigi Ferraris.

The blucerchiati striker pulled up during Friday's practice session and is expected to be out for a week.

This current injury follows hot on the heels of a similar knock sustained on his other thigh, but the current ailment is not thought to be quite as serious.

In anticipation of Sunday's encounter, one that could see the Genovese side regain a top half position in Serie A, coach Walter Mazzarri remains confident.

"We've not worked this well in training for a long time," he beamed.

"We worked on possession play, moving the ball quickly, and of course our fitness concerns.

"The squad worked well to my instructions and I saw important signs of improvement from them.

"The international break has really helped us regain some sharpness."

Samp sit on eight points after seven games, while the visitors hover around the relegation zone with a mere six.
