Team of the week (4-3-3)

Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus): Incredibly saved a deflected Montolovio shot which was heading towards goal. Simply the best in the world.

Ivan Cordoba (Inter): The perfect defender thanks to his anticipation skills and his speed which make him one of the best defenders in Serie A.

Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus): Excellent game by the young defender who practically cancelled Pazzini out of the game.

Daniele Bonera (Milan): Very commanding display in defence as he denied the Lazio strikers from every shooting towards goal except for the conceded goal which was not his fault.

Moris Carrozzieri (Atalanta): Very energetic display by the Bergamaschi’s defender who did not give any space to his opponents as he helped Atalanta keep a clean sheet.

Massimo Ambrosini(Milan): A great goal (though probably unintentional) and also a great assist for Gilardino. A true leader.

Riccardo Kaka` (Milan): Two goals and an assist for the Brazilian ace who was once again devastating when going forward.

Fabio Simplicio (Palermo): Wonderful performance for the midfielder of the Rosanero who lead the midfield of the Sicilian side with great authority.

Julio Cruz (Inter): Incredible goal scoring rate of 1 goal every 68 minutes played. Any team in the world would love to have this striker in their ranks.

Francesco Totti (Roma): Usual spectacular display by the Roma captain who also scored a brace and offered an assist to Mancini.

Alberto Gilardino (Milan): Finally found the net again as he scored two goals against Lazio and could have easily scored more if he was not so wasteful.

Honourable Mention

Sebastien Frey (Fiorentina)
Gennaro Sardo (Catania)
Tomas Ujfalusi (Fiorentina)
Luis Figo (Inter)
Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina)
Vincenzo Iaquinta (Juventus)

They were given 6 penalties in 10 matches. Almost all 6 were dubious.
Needless to say there wasn't a penalty given against them.
Yea, nothing new here. Milan will always be 1st on my hate list.

Lippi: Inter Are Scudetto Favourites

Ex-Italy boss Marcello Lippi believes that Inter are the favourites to win Serie A this season but says the title will go all the way down to the wire.

Lippi had an unsuccessful spell as Coach of Inter during the 1999/00 season, before returning to glory with former club Juventus and then of course leading Italy to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The Viareggio-born tactician is currently on a managerial sabbatical and has offered some of his views on Italian football while on holiday in the Tuscan island of Elba.

“Inter remain the favourites for the Scudetto but I do not believe they will run away with the championship,” said Lippi. “This year the title will be a sprint for the finish line. Roma are almost equal with Inter.

“The squad of Spalletti is now ready to win everything. I watched them against Manchester United last week and they showed great personality.”

Unbeaten Inter are currently top the Serie A standings with 17 points from seven games. Juventus and Roma are tied in second place with 14 points, while Fiorentina sit in fourth a point further back. European Champions Milan are already seven points off the pace after their poor recent run of results.

and the farce continues

Delio Rossi has been placed under investigation by the Italian Football Federation for allegedly trying to influence the performance of Lecce against his Lazio side in 2005-06.

The FIGC have released a brief statement this evening where they have claimed that Rossi acted against their sporting rules ahead of the League game which they won 1-0.

"Coach Delio Rossi has been charged with trying to ask, without success, Lazio President Lotito to start talks with Lecce directors in a bid to affect the technical performance of the squad ahead of a match on April 30, 2006," a FIGC note read.

It’s unclear at this stage as to what exactly Rossi is supposed to have asked Lotito to do, but he will now face a hearing in front of the game’s disciplinary commission.

Reports in the peninsula claim that the FIGC acted after they received phone tap evidence which was being gathered as part of an investigation into threats made towards unpopular Biancocelesti chief Lotito.

The capital club ended the 05-06 Serie A campaign in sixth before they were punished for their part in the Calciopoli match fixing scandal. Lecce were relegated at the end of that campaign.
