I imagine you've giving him as much hell as i've been giving my friend  England out Italy/Romania through, Utd losing to Bolton, Juve beating Palermo 5-0 :D
He's lucky he travelled the day England were knocked out, but I couldn't let it go easily...I called him and stayed like 10min teasing him, shouting non stop.

Serie A Team Of The Week: Round 13

Team of the week (4-3-3):

Luca Bucci (Parma): He would have had a perfect game if he had saved Firmani’s shot, but despite conceding that late goal, the Crociati's goalkeeper was excellent during the entire match and made some brilliant saves.

Christian Panucci (Roma): Sense of 'déjà-vu' for the full-back who scored a carbon copy goal of the one he netted for Italy a week before. Decisive yet again, despite his age.

Walter Samuel (Inter): The wall in the Nerazzurri’s defence as the Argentinean player was practically unbeatable in the middle of the back four.

Domenico Criscito (Juventus): After some disappointing games, the young Bianconeri’s defender proved why he is considered as Italy’s most promising central defender. Perfect game with no mistakes.

Nicola Legrottaglie (Juventus): Just like his team-mate Criscito, he had a perfect game at the centre of the Old Lady’s defence. Maybe he deserves a call-up to the Azzurri squad.

Pasquale Foggia (Cagliari): Milan let him go some years ago as they did not believe in him. Yesterday’s game proved that the Rossoneri were wrong in doing so and Cagliari can thank them for the 'present’.

Pavel Nedved (Juventus): Did not score, but was unstoppable during the entire game which reminded us of the Czech player who won the Golden Ball award a few years ago. The Olimpico crowd chanted his name before Del Piero stepped up to take the penalty. He would have definitely deserved that honour.

Fabio Firmani (Lazio): Quality and quantity for the Biancoceleste midfielder who also crowned his performance with a goal that won his side three precious points.

David Suazo (Inter): Finally the Suazo we had admired in previous years at Cagliari showed his class for the Nerazzurri thanks to a superlative performance that included some great moves, a goal and a half-assist.

Marcelo Zalayeta (Napoli): Unstoppable for the Catania defence as they failed to hold the former Juventus player from scoring a brace to increase his season tally to six goals.

Vincenzo Iaquinta (Juventus): Maybe Del Piero scored twice, but Iaquinta was still incredible on Sunday evening and deserves a starting position in this Juve side alongside Trezeguet. Has already scored more goals this season than he did last year.

Honourable Mention

Rubens Rubinho (Genoa)
Serginho (Milan)
Tomas Zapotocny (Udinese)
Alessandro Rosina (Torino)
Manuele Blasi (Napoli)
Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus)
Ronaldo (Milan)

Cagni shocked at sack
Tuesday 27 November, 2007
Axed Empoli tactician Gigi Cagni has spoken of his surprise at receiving his marching orders late last night.

The veteran boss led Empoli to seventh place last term and secured a historic first UEFA Cup adventure.

However, the wheels fell off this time around and the Tuscans are languishing near the relegation zone with their European dreams long forgotten.

“Honestly, I did not expect the sack,” Cagni told Radio Kiss Kiss. “I’m still convinced that there would have been time to make up lost ground.

“The club told me that the squad wasn’t following me any longer.

“I don’t share their view at all, but obviously I accept their decision and I hope that they are right.”

The new man is Alberto Malesani and the gracious Cagni wishes his successor all the best.

“The side has the potential to do well and I hope that the lads will immediately warm to Malesani.

“I hope that he can save Empoli and I know that the team can claw their way back up the table.”

Malesani’s debut on the Azzurri bench comes away to Empoli – a crucial battle between two struggling sides.

Seems like Empoli are certain of the three points then :D

Udinese to try out fan 'passport'

ROME (AFP) - Serie A club Udinese are to try out a fan passport - called a PassaSport - later this season in a bid to curb crowd violence.

On Monday Udinese announced a plan to introduce the PassaSport, which is equipped with a microprocessor and an antenna, to control the access of fans to its Friuli di Udine stadium.

The technology will be trialled from December until the end of the season.

Udinese president Franco Soldati showed off a prototype of the PassaSport at a press conference in Napoli.

"Our organisation is always at the forefront when drafting technological innovations applied to the world of football," he boasted.

"It's an interesting idea and at Udinese we welcome this type of experiment to try to improve our fans' access to our stadium."

Paolo Pepori, the representative of Gep, the partner-company that makes the PassaSport, said the fan passport could revolutionise football.

"The PassaSport is an example. It actually uses the same technology as the electronic passport, guaranteeing the same level of immediacy in the identification of the person and using the same using devices that combat counterfeiting."

Materazzi: Juve Are Our Closest Challengers

Marco Materazzi believes that Juventus are Inter’s toughest challengers for this year’s Scudetto.

The Nerazzurri are the hot favourites to retain their Serie A championship, and with three months of the season gone they have still yet to lose in the league.

Juventus were expected to struggle this campaign, following their post-Calciopoli promotion from Serie B.

Despite losing a host of world class players last summer such as Fabio Cannavaro, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Patrick Vieira, the Bianconeri have surprised many on their return to the top-flight, and currently sit in second place in the table, tucked behind Inter.

They are level on points with Udinese and Roma, and many experts still regard the Giallorossi as Inter’s closest challengers. However Materazzi does not see it that way.

“Personally I think Juve,” the Matrix said.

“They are strong, they have belief, they have a great changing room, they are a great club, and have a large tradition.”

The no-nonsense defender is currently working his way back to fitness after three months out with a serious thigh injury.

The 34-year-old came on as a late substitute in Inter’s last two matches against Atalanta and Fenerbahce, and he is likely to be on the bench once again for this Sunday’s Serie A clash with fifth-placed Fiorentina.

I never usually read the quotes of the week section on the channel 4 website but I found one really good this week.

“At Milan Adriano would find the ideal environment to return to the top. We have never had unhappy players complaining, nor have we lost players by the wayside.”
In fairness, Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi, your players are so old they can’t wander far.

Roy Hodgson, the veteran English coach whose prowess remains largely unacknowledged in his own land, yesterday resigned as coach to Finland to take up an undefined role at Internazionale next month. The Englishman, who previously coached the nerazzurri twice in the 1990s, will assist the coach, Roberto Mancini, and work alongside Massimo Moratti, the president.

That is, Hodgson said, unless another country offer him a national job meanwhile. This is not thought to be a "come and get me" message to the Football Association, although Hodgson is on the list of wise men Brian Barwick, the FA chief executive, will consult before choosing Steve McClaren's successor.

Kaka wins Ballon d'Or

It is now official – Milan star Kaka is the 2007 Player of the Year after he was assigned the Ballon d’Or.

The Brazilian had been the over-riding favourite since voting began among the journalists all over the continent.

Previously known as the European Player of the Year award, organisers 'France Football’ have recently extended the competition to those all over the world.

“It was an exceptional year and the Ballon d’Or crowns an extraordinary 2007,” said Kaka as he accepted the award in Paris.

“I want to thank God who allowed me to be here today. I thank my wife, my parents and Milan, the team that allowed me to win.

“I also thank my teammates, both at Milan and Brazil, and all of the fans.”

Kaka was the hot favourite after winning the Champions League – where he was top scorer with 10 goals – and the European Super Cup with the Rossoneri.

'Ricky’ succeeds Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro, who won both the 2006 Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year trophies after his World Cup triumph.

In all eight Ballon d’Ors have gone to Milan players after Gianni Rivera (1969), Ruud Gullit (1987), Marco van Basten (1988, ’89, ’92), George Weah (1995) and Andriy Shevchenko (2004).
