Mexes slams fan ban
Philippe Mexes is furious at the “favouritism” that banned Roma fans from travelling to Catania while Inter supporters can cheer in Parma.
The Osservatorio – a committee set up to evaluate the risks involved around sporting events and suggest ways to combat violence – has classed Sunday’s Catania-Roma showdown as a high risk game.
Because of this they have barred the Giallorossi supporters from travelling to Sicily or buying tickets for the match.
It is a cruel blow for what could be a Scudetto-winning encounter, especially as Inter will have their fans out in force at Parma’s Stadio Tardini.
“Although when the players walk on to the field they must think only of the game, the fans do play an important part,” explained Mexes.
“What we have seen here is two different ways of treating the supporters, banning our fans from coming to Catania yet allowing Inter’s to visit Parma.”
The matter is still up in the air, as Lega Calcio President Antonio Matarrese has also vociferously complained about the decision and demanded a rethink by Thursday.
“Regardless of this we must concentrate on Sunday’s game and keep doing what we have been lately, hoping a surprise can emerge.”
The gap at the top is now just one point, so if Roma defeat Catania and Inter fail to win at the Tardini, the Giallorossi will take the Scudetto.
Inter have the superior head-to-head record, so if the two teams finish level on points then Roberto Mancini’s side wins the title.
