Nesta eyes four more years
Milan stopper Alessandro Nesta has cooled talk that he could be on his way out of the San Siro, insisting he would like to see out his current contract with the Rossoneri.
Although he has not entirely ruled out the possibility of a move elsewhere, the defender wants to pen a new deal that would tie him to the San Siro until the end his career when his existing deal expires in 2008.
Rumours have been circulating around the peninsula that Nesta could be on his way back to Lazio, the club where he started his career, but the Italy international dismissed those reports, claiming he is: "staying at Milan for four more years."
The 30-year-old is currently in the US, where he is recovering from a long-standing shoulder injury, but is close to returning to Milan.
"I have read many things in the papers, including that I would never come back to Italy from Miami," Nesta told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Instead, I am coming back on February 26, but I am not considering the idea of returning to Rome. My contract expires in 2008, and with my injury I don't think this is the right time to discuss an extension.
"Moving back to Lazio would make no sense now," he added. "That was a wonderful part of my life, but I am still young and I want to play at the highest level, preferably in the Champions League."
When questioned on his future, Nesta said: "I don't know yet. I don't think I will ever play in the MLS, although I like Miami a lot. If I extend my deal with Milan for four more years, that is where I will end my career.
"I like life in the United States and there would be great opportunities for my children. In any case, I prefer football there rather than in Japan or the Arab nations."
