The English have been on the wrong side of history so many times and they always come out of it with their heads up their asses and smelling like roses.

The one time the Brits were on the right side of history was WW2 and that was mostly by accident.

At a stretch the abolition of slavery but I'm not sure they get too much credit for that- I'm sure the slaves would gladly have freed themselves given the choice.

The Brits had the largest Empire in human history, they enslaved and killed millions of people all over the globe - that alone means you're not gonna be on the right side of history. And you find many of them denying this fact while saying they simply brought enlightenment and civilization, that the British Empire was about trade - tell that to the Indians.

They were on the winning side in both World Wars, hence they never had to be held accountable for their atrocities. But the British Empire was in many ways no better than Nazi Germany, but got away with it. They say they saved Europe from the Nazis and fought for freedom and peace, but at the same time you had Churchill who believed Britian should colonise people he deemed inferior, no different to the Nazis in Eastern Europe/Soviet Union.

King Leopold in Congo takes the prize though. That was beyond brutal.

In today's episode of re-writing history, 'the British empire was as bad as the Nazis'. Churchill seemingly as bad as Hitler because people were racist as fuck 80 years ago. Fuck me.

I understand why Scottish or Irish members will have an anti-British sentiment and I don't have issue with that. The British empire suffers these days above others mostly from recency bias or from its own success (size). I'm sure if our members were Taino or Aztec or Inca then the genocidal Spanish may be their target of choice. But this is history, large empires of colonialism or expansionism are generally very bad for the colonised. From ancient empires up to modern US, and the further you go back into history it's generally worse.

The one thing I'll say about the European empires is that at least there was a greed or self-preservation involved. People looking from the outside might see the British empire as this thing that was basically omnipotent like the Galactic Empire of Star Wars (shout out to all the American directors to this day who keep British actors in jobs with their depictions of received pronunciation as the sinister and calculated accent of choice), but it wasn't until Henry VIII and then expanded upon by Elizabeth I that England and then Britain was anything of note, and the little island was several times in danger of being invaded by stronger empires. Literal survival of the fittest. Having been invaded multiple times before probably established a war like mindset over the preceding centuries. Back to my original point, there were several non-European empires who seemed to enjoy nothing more than massacring anyone within sight.

I've no idea what any of this has to do with Israel as I didn't read the original post, just my two cents.

The context and time period of the British Empire in India was different, not saying they behaved appropriately, but the world has moved forward to protect from such things happening again. Also, some Indians would say the Brits set down some framework for India to develop into what it is today. That debate is very different to what's happening now.

There are many sanctions and other tools that can be used to hurt a country without any killing. Although there is a passive nature and reluctance to send troops, at least weapons are sent to Ukraine for example, so they can defend themselves. Again, it's not a perfect solution because many terrible things are happening in Africa and many countries won't intervene unless they can benefit by taking some compensation, but at least there is the recognition that the Putins of the world are a huge threat.

However, Israel is immune to all of this and the US is pulling all of its levers to help them continue with this genocide. The last time such an ideology was witnessed was WW2 and to save the world, many countries fought together. The greater outlook was that had Hitler succeeded, he'd simply continue and kill and conquer every possible land, so it had to be stopped. Today you're witnessing Hitler winning in Gaza and a clear intent to kill all neighbours. Also, you see how they're controlling and forced the US to bomb Iran, go to Iraq and Syria, all for the benefit of Israel. Hitler never had this much influence and nor did his equivalent Mossad operate across borders. They are the worst nation ever, far surpassing any other group of people, even the shittest of shit that is ISIS.
