-destabilize region
-cause giant refugee crisis
-kill hundreds of thousands of people
-lose thousands of your own soldiers
-burn through billions
-be forced to admit said weapons are not present
-withdraw from country that you had a war against
-leave behind several militant groups that got created from said conflict
-chaos in region
-america shrugs off it all off as if nothing happened, look back at Vietnam all the way to Afghanistan
