Israeli-trained Gaza doctor loses three daughters and niece to IDF tank shell

By The Associated Press

Tags: IDF, Israel, Israel News

Dr. Ezzeldeen Abu al-Aish, a Palestinian doctor who trained in Israel, has been a regular fixture on Israeli television during the 21-day-old war against Hamas militants, bringing witness accounts of the medical crisis facing Gazans to Israeli living rooms.

His report Friday was drenched in grief as he sobbed through a cell phone that three of his daughters and a niece were killed by an Israel Defense Forces shell.

"I want to know why my daughters were harmed. This should haunt (Israeli Ehud Prime Minister) Olmert his entire life," Abu al-Aish said on Israel's Channel 10, speaking through a cell phone in Hebrew as he has throughout the war.

Gazan officials identified Al-Aish's deceased daughters as 22-year-old Bisan, 15-year-old Mayer and 14-year old Aya. His niece was identified as 14-year-old Nour Abu al-Aish.

At least two other daughters were injured.

Throughout the war, Abu al-Aish had put a face on the Palestinian suffering, making regular reports by cell phone to Israel's Channel 10. He is a rarity among Palestinians, a Hebrew-speaker who trained in two Israeli hospitals - the Soroka hospital in Beersheba just 18 miles from Gaza, and Tel Aviv's Tel Hashomer hospital.

His tragedy prompted numerous calls of concern to the station, many from
people who know him.

"We all know and love him well at Soroka, and we really hope the situation gets better," Dr. Shaul Sofer, head of the ER at Soroka who taught Abu al-Aish.

Abu al-Aish, a 55-year-old gynecologist, also is a known peace activist who was involved in promoting joint Israeli-Palestinian projects, and an academic who studied the affects of war on Gazan and Israeli children. He works at Gaza's main Shifa Hospital.

During the call-ins, Abu al-Aish often spoke of his fears for his eight children as Israeli shells punished not only the Hamas militants they were targeting but civilians who live in the crowded enclave, unable to leave. His wife reportedly died recently of cancer.

When Channel 10 called him on Friday, he answered the phone crying that his house in the northern Gaza strip town of Jebalia had been hit by Israeli shells and his daughters killed. Eighteen members of his extended family were in the house at the time.
Israeli TV said initial reports indicated that a sniper had fired from either the family's building - which friends quoted by TV said they doubted - or nearby, and the Israeli infantry responded with a tank shell.

Abu al-Aish was able to arrange the transfer of two injured daughters to Israeli hospitals - something that has been extremely rare during this conflict. The Israeli army also for the first time allowed a Palestinian ambulance to go straight to the Erez border crossing, where the injured were transferred to Israeli ambulances.

From there, they were taken by helicopter to Tel Hashomer hospital in Tel Aviv.

"Everyone knew we were home. Suddenly we were bombed. How can we talk to Olmert and (Foreign Minister) Tzipi Livni after this?" Abu al-Aish told television reporters at the border crossing.

"Suddenly, today when there was hope for a cease-fire, on the last day...I was speaking with my children, suddenly they bombed us. The doctor who treats Israeli patients."

what's even more outrageous is that they knew the location of his family

Fuck Israel, seriously. That's fucking terrible. They knew the location of innocent people yet they murdered them anyway. The IDF are just as terrible as any mass murderer, whether it be Hitler, Charles Manson, whatever, you name it, that's what they are. And I can't but hope for their annihilation just like any other murderer.

I can't really boycott my own nation, but I can educate people on how our support for Israel is really supporting terrorism in more ways than one, and how we should not allow rogue IDF operatives in the White House where policies are concocted. The American people are being screwed over underneath their noses, so it's really unfortunate that nobody knows our liberties and money are being stripped from us every single day. Perhaps one day we'll have a better idea of what the Palestinians have to live with.

Good. I wish you luck with that.

Treat Hamas like Japan in WWII: Israeli nationalist leader

ERUSALEM (AFP) — Israel should follow the example set by the United States when it brought Japan to its knees at the end of World War II, the head of an ultra-nationalist opposition party was quoted as saying Tuesday.

"We must continue to fight Hamas just like the United States did with the Japanese in World War II," Avigdor Lieberman said, according to the website of the Jerusalem Post newspaper.

Japan surrendered in 1945 after atomic bombs were dropped on the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

Lieberman, who quit Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's coalition government last year, said Israel needed to "break the will" of Hamas in Gaza where more than 900 Palestinians have been killed in a war that began on December 27.

"Israel won't be secure so long as Hamas is in power, and therefore we need to come to a decision that we will break the will of Hamas to keep fighting," he was quoted as saying during a speech at Bar-Ilan University, near Tel Aviv.

Lieberman's comments, which were widely broadcast on radio stations in Gaza and circulated on text messages, drew a withering response from senior Palestinians.

Mustafa Barghuthi, an independent lawmaker and former Palestinian information minister, said Lieberman's comments reflected the contempt felt by Israelis towards the Palestinians.

"This shows one more time that Israel never learn lessons from the past and rather invokes one of the bloodiest massacres in history to be the fate of the Gazans. They don't have respect for human life", he said.

Lieberman's right-wing Yisrael Beitenu party, which draws its core support from Israel's large Russian immigrant community, is tipped to emerge as the fourth largest party in elections due on February 10.

"The head of an ultra-nationalist opposition party"

The ultra-nationalists are the same everywhere in the world. And it's not like he has any power to do it, he is in opposition.

This is my favorite politician in Palestine currently. I wish he can be the president soon, but I'm so sure Israel will assassinate him when they feel he may become the president. He knows how to defeat Israel politically in the world.

All the Israeli ministers have the same mentality. But they are relative in their expressing of their nazi ideas. Zaevi was the clearest one of them before few years when he was describing Palestinians like animals, but heroes in PFLP could hunt him in his hotel as a revenge for PFLP leader who had been assassinated in 2001. I hope Hamas will hunt more of these bugs as a revenge for leaders Nezar Rayyan and Said Syam who were murdered in this current strike on Gaza.

In Gaza: Killed by Israel, Eaten by Dogs

Gaza City - "Oh, God! I have never seen such a terrible scene," cried Kayed Abu Aukal.

The emergency doctor could not believe himself seeing the remains of what was days back Shahd, a full-fleshed 4-year-old Palestinian girl. She died when an Israeli shell was fired at the backyard of her home in the Jabalya refugee camp northern Gaza strip, where she was playing. When her parents attempted to rush to the rescue of their kid, who fell to the ground amid a pool of her blood, rains of Israeli bullets kept them a distance. For the next five days Shahd's which was left lying in the open left for dogs to tear out.

"The dogs didn't leave one single part of the poor baby's body intact," said a tearful Abu Aukal. "We have seen heart-breaking scenes over the past 18 days. We picked up children whose bodies were torn or burnt, but nothing like this."

For five days Shahd's brother, Matar, and cousin, Mohamed, tried in vain to reach her body. They were fired at by the Israeli occupation forces every time. Seeing the body of the little angel torn to piece by the assaulting dogs, the two made one final attempt, and it was their last. They were showered by Israeli bullets before they could reach Shahd's body, joining a long list of more than 920 Palestinians killed by Israel since December 27.

Deliberate Omran Zayda, a young neighbor, said the Israelis knew very well what they were doing.

"They chased her family and prevented them from reaching to her body, knowing that the dogs would eat it," he said.

"They are not just killing our children, they are intentionally doing so in the most heinous and inhuman ways."

Zayda said words, and even cameras, can not describe the horrific scene.

"You can never imagine what the dogs have done to her innocent body," he said, fighting back his tears.

Many Palestinians insist Shahd was not the first or only such case. In Jabalya, when Abd Rabu's family was trying to bury three of its dead, the Israeli forces started firing at them, witnesses said. They then released their dogs at the bodies, deserted by mourners who sought shelter from the Israeli gunfire, they added. "What happened was awful and unthinkable, " Saad Abd Rabu, the deceased uncle, told IOL.

"Our sons died before our eyes and we were even prevented from burying them," he cried. "The Israelis just released their dogs at their bodies, as even they have not done enough."

I saw Shahd's family on Tv before two days. Her father can't say a word since what happened to his daughter, and he can't even stand on his legs without help.

This can't be described really. And in the end, these cowards will go without punishment from the "Free World".

Since this morning, medical teams reached regions that were under direct shelling during the last 20 days. The initial information say that more than 95 bodies were found under the rubble. Most of them are for women and chidren who remained in their houses which were close to the attacking Israeli tanks. Sources say the number is much more than this number.

No more clear death tolls as bodies are buried directly without transfering them to the hospitals because of its very bad condition.

    Enjoy, "International Community".
