I agree. There isn't any real legal basis for not allowing them to build a mosque there, but i think muslims should be a little more appreciative of the situation(even if they have a right to build a mosque there) and build their mosque somewhere else and avoid this whole mess.
They want to build it there because it's a prime real estate location and it comes at a lesser cost than building it elsewhere. Due to the building that is currently on the site being condemned.

Further away from Ground Zero. This has more to do with suppressing tension in the community than anything else. No idea why one would want to build a mosque there when you know some folks might heckle it, or worse. You're playing with a hand grenade here.
That actually is extremely safe.
wait what was the definition of terrorism again?
exactly what i was thinking

Set up a fence.

No, better still: set up a wall!

And then require checks of documentation and papers to allow people in or out.

And then for the people inside, bulldoze their dwellings once in a while just to let them know who's boss.

And then...

Wait? What were we talking about again?
:lol2:

how big is manhattan?
.....and how much open property is there.

This argument of letting the families decide is ridiculous. Build the fucking thing. Religion didn't kill anyone.....

Now if Boeing wanted to build a plant on the GZ site, that the families should be pissed about.

This is such a dumb idea. Not building a mosque there isn't an admission of guilt nor is building a mosque there a way to bridge understanding in the community, it's just dumb. If the aim is to reach out to people then there's other ways to do it...certainly not by jamming it in someones face.

It's two blocks away man! Why the hell would a muslim praying place be insensitive to American's who lost dear ones in that attack? Some would argue those who did attack the WTC weren't even muslims.

Two blocks is nothing, besides we both know that they're building it there on purpose (whatever their intentions may be). Well it clearly is because it's all over the news. Some families have spoken out and just the other day there was a 9/11 fireman on tv.

Who would argue that? Is someone questioning their faith? :shifty:

It's all over the news because of the way some responed to it, just read the 1st post here and check what a woman said about it and how in her opinion mosques are places for her muslim enemies. Such idiots are the ones who are making drama out of this.

:D

Here in the Arab world it was already said by many "high-class" religious figures, though it's well known they were pressured to do so. But still..

People also should make note that a large part of the reaction against the mosque (other than some of the families that have come out against it) is coming from a group of people that believe islam is attempting to take over the country and are against any building of mosques in the US.

Exactly. And that's what I've said in a couple of my posts in this thread before.
