Man City hadn't conceded in any of their five home league matches whilst Newcastle had only scored in one away league match all season - but also not in their last three league matches. Added to that their striker problems upfront (even though Ameobi played today) it was clear there was a high probability that one of these two sides may not find the net today - which was needed for the bet to win.

Of course football doesn't work like that - any number of things could have happened during play. However with over 60 minutes of the game gone and its 0-0 and going exactly to form and statistics you feel great your homework paid off!
