I don't think anyone has really thought like that since the 50's.
Except Scotland.

"If you beat the world champions that makes you world champions by our reconing"
That's fine logic, so long as they accept that means Scotland were World Champs by virtue of winning 3-2 at Wembley in 1967 - England's first defeat after winning the World Cup.

I'm sick of the Spanish wankfest we've all had to listen to for the last few years, I find their football absolutely boring, while technically flawless, it's not easy viewing watching them pass teams to death.

Spanish Press bleating about getting beat:

Someone needs to remind Spain that possession in itself does not win you the game.

They complain that England did nothing?

Well, Spain did nothing, too. They just did nothing while having possession, while England did nothing while not having the ball.

By my reckoning the game was one chance all: Lampard took England's and Fabregas missed Spain's.

Just looking at the opening paragraph, was amused by how the Spanish branded the England victory, yet fail to see the tediousness of their own football. I can't imagine all these Spaniards are sitting down excitedly viewing 500 back and forth passes every game. They weren't entertaining world champions. I agree that efficiency is greater than having many chances without being clinical enough to score. 21 shots on goal with 2 on target, which is the same amount that England had on target with 3 chances.

And it seems like they forgot about the last time they played (and lost against) Italy, stats were a lot different.

Amused at how they seem to adore themselves over there, anyway.

Didn't Spain (Villa) hit the post?

Why shouldn't they adore a team Taft are European and World Champions?

The former Atlético Madrid defender Miguel-Angel Ruiz said the result was "unjust"
Miguel-Angel Portugal, ex-sporting director at Real Madrid and coach of Racing Santander, said: "Spain deserved a different result.
Tomás Roncero moaned: "If Spain won their games like this I'd convert to curling rather than puff my chest out and be proud of a footballing infamy like that."
They appear dismissive to other ways of playing football (which worked for England), yet think that their team has mastered attractive football which I disagree with. I'm not speaking about the results, more the method of victory which they see as highly important as well.

whining, capricious spanish kunts...zero humiity, and zero class, just a huge amount of talent. the reaction to the loss in the spanish press has been predictable and smacks of an arrogance that even more than prior to the english victory, i want to see stamped on, crushed, raped, killed then skullfucked. A wonderful team of footballers, but a country full of pretty ladyboys maquerading as men.

The english I know, who are many, find the result amusing, not in any way a sign that we have become the greatest side in the world, just amusing. To my mind, its great to see some of that long absent english grit and determination. all we need to do now is make the team as solid as possible, hope rooney's ban is reduced by one game, keep joe hart and ashley cole fit and hope for the best.

the spanish armada remain favourites, although, as against Italy, on saturday they showed that they don't like it rough. Germs must be second favourites...then Italy, holland and portugal...then england slightly better off than the frogs.

This is why I hate the Spanish League and Spanish NT right now. They have taken arrogance to new levels since Barca has dominated club football and Spain won the Euros/WC. They seriously think they are unbeatable and no one deserves to beat them because they play (in their opinion) the best football on earth. I am with you and Red, I personally find their brand of football boring to the extreme, but each to their own I guess.

I remember Iker Casillas moaning that Spain deserved to beat Italy back in August and I think their coach Del Bosque said the same as well. Terrible losers.
