Two wins, two goals and a couple of disappointing results from South America. That, in short, is how the Bianconeri players fared in Friday's 2014 World Cup and 2013 European U21 Championship qualifiers.
14 Juventini were involved in six matches yesterday, with Asamoah's Ghana (today, against Malawi) and Vucinic's Montenegro (no fixture this weekend) yet to feature.
The two Italy teams clocked up victories with the help of a host of Juve players. Prandelli's senior side beat Armenia 3-1 in Yerevan as Andrea Pirlo opened the scoring from the spot, De Rossi (from Pirlo's cross) and Osvaldo adding the other goals. Seven of the eight Bianconeri called up turned out the Azzurri: Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci and Marchisio all played the full 90 minutes, Pirlo was replaced by Giaccherini for the last quarter of an hour and Giovinco came off on the hour mark. Chiellini was the only one not to feature.
Italy Under-21s, with Luca Marrone at the heart of midfield, also came good with a 1-0 win over Sweden in the first leg of their U21 Euro 2013 play-off. The goal had a bit of Juve in it too, as Ciro Immobile bagged the winner. The Azzurrini will now take a slim lead to Sweden for the second leg on Tuesday when they vie to qualify for next summer's tournament in Israel.
There were smiles for Bendtner too as he cancelled out Bulgaria's lead to earn Denmark a point in Sofia. The striker will be at the Stadio Meazza in Milan on Tuesday when Italy host the Danes in a Group B clash.
Switzerland's game with Norway also finished all square. Lichtsteiner played 90 minutes and picked up yellow card.
Across the ocean, Juventus' South American contingent will be less happy this morning. Arturo Vidal was one of two players sent off as nine-man Chile fell to a 3-1 defeat against Ecuador, Isla completing the full game. Meanwhile Caceres could do nothing to prevent an on-fire Messi inspiring Argentina to a 3-0 win over Uruguay.
