Internazionale are ready to join the hunt for Philippe Mexes after the highly-rated defender confirmed he wants to quit Auxerre.

Mexes is one of the most sought-after stoppers in Europe and has attracted a wealth of interest across the continent.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Marseille are all admirers of the France international.

Italian giants Inter are now understood to have entered the race to sign the centre half at the end of the season.

Though Mexes is under contract at Auxerre until 2006, he is hoping to secure his exit from the club in the summer.

His preference is a move to Spain, with Italy his second choice, meaning Inter will have to be at their persuasive best to tempt Mexes to Giuseppe Meazza.

"I want to leave but I don't know where I'll go," Mexes told Le Parisien.

"The ideal thing will be a club which plays in the Champions League each year.

"In which country? In order, Spain, Italy and England."

I have since Confederations Cup been keen on seeing Mexès
play for Juve... But i wouldn't be surprised if he ended up somewhere
else and for that matter Inter (actually even before that, seeing him play with auxerre)...

Inter bought Fadiga from Auxerre... after the medical test
when they discovered his heart problems there were talks that
they were gonna send him back and instead get Mexès...
Then there was reports suggesting that Auxrre will C that Inter
is the first team in line if they were interested in any of Auxerre's players in the future...

  :(
