its amazing how an earthquake in the west would have been all over the news.and the one in indonesia is going unnoticed.pretty sad really.

almsot 5000 dead bodies found to date, with over 400 aftershocks reported.

may they all RIP.
Not sure where you get your information from, but it's front page, above-the-fold news in today's Sunday New York Times.

Check out their Web site if you don't believe me either:

i wasnt talking about the US alone.i was talking about the press everywhere.maye using the word 'unnoticed' was an exagerration, but its obviously not getting the same coverage that it deserves.and not seeing a topic about it over here when the quake itself is 2 days old was rather dissapointing.

Actually, and not to be argumentative, I don't agree with you. Even check out the BBC's Web site:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/

This is pretty much the top story in all media outlets I normally follow. To call posters at Juventuz.com a media outlet is sketchy at best, but I do agree that your post was the first I've seen it mentioned here.

correct me if im wrong, but has it been getting the same coverage that events like katrina received?

im not anti-west.all im saying is that something of this sort taking place in the west would have received much more attention.thats it.

I don't see why it should. It's getting top story coverage from what I've witnessed, certainly. But then English-language media sources are always going to be biased to their obvious connections, just as media sources in SE Asia will focus attention more on this than they perhaps did on Katrina. That's pretty natural, IMO.

And in Katrina's case, you're also talking about an entire city that was evacuated, practically wiped off the map in wide chunks, and was a drama that was unfolding and getting worse day-by-day because of flooding, civil unrest, etc.

i suppose you're right.becasue my knowledge on katrina is limited sadly.its probably a 'west knows more about the west and the east knows more about the east' thing.

Even though I don't fully agree with you on this one Axl, one thing is for sure though. I was watching MSNBC yesterday and they were reading out the top headlines of the day, where they mentioned the earthquake. Just as the news started, the top news they decided to read was about the money they found with the Lousiana congressman :disagree:

    Now that is disgusting.

Do you have any specific everywhere?

It has been on all news on TV in Sweden, on Euronews, in all Swedish newspapers and these are the ones I get. Paul mentioned coverage in Italy and swag in the USA and I am sure if more are to question your statement, you will swear for the moment you came up with such a claim. Is it just because of a trend or a habit that you have to question the media?

Its true that some of the European at least media didnt reacted the way they did with other western disasters,
maybe because they didnt have the proper material to show at the very beginning,
but it became the first topic everywhere today
and i was also surprised that many ppl who dont look up for news didnt heard about it since this is too big to ignore/miss it...

    PS Offtopic :
did anyone hear (almost a week ago)
about the collision of two Greek and Turkish fighter planes engaging over a Greek island ( ala US-Russia cold war ) ?
Some say this thing could start a war,
i wonder how it was presented (if it was presented at all ) in your countries...

I heard about it but I don't think it will start a war; I just thing it will make Turkey's call to join the EU even more unreacheable.

Just the idea of two fighter jets clashing in mid air...I mean they are versatile and easily manouverable...unlike Jumbo jets.

    Sorry if that offended you:)
