diego from 30 yards ? but you did notice that apart from his technique his shooting has been pretty weak and he is not the one to expect those hammering screamers from?

bayern have not the best quality in midfield, so diego could really hurt them if we play the ball to him...

please do this again diego

My formation:

GK
LB CB CB RB
Marchisio Melo Sissoko
Diego
Del Piero Amauri/Trez
we could exchange marchisio with melo, if claudio is to tired and introduce poulsen in the middle. he will hold the position in front of the defence better and do relieve pressure because he does make himself available for easy passes when the defenders have the ball. with melos roaming he might more often go missing and the defenders will have to blast the ball high, with no easy pass available in the middle

Or we could field a:

Sissoko - Melo - Marchisio

and then if we are still holding the draw at 60-70 min., Ciro might opt for Camo/Gio to finish em when they go all in attack! Risky, but the fate loves the bold!

You mean a midfield trio Melo-Poulsen-Momo?
Won't it be too centrally oriented? I want Marchisio exactly because he can play on the flank both as a support for Grosso and is more comfortable in attacking on the wing than Melo and Poulsen are. The Dane and Melo are hard to imagine playing far from the center, both in defense or attack.

Now that I think about it, Red's 4-4-1-1 is the perfect formation for this Bayern team. But since Del Piero will surely play it won't happen and I won't consider it a possible option.

but melo and sissoko do roam a lot and their action radius may reach into the middle, where poulsen will hold the ground in front of the defense.

my problem with melo in the middle is, when he does roam to the side and tries to dribble and we lose the ball we have no one in the middle and they can easily counter us through the middle. both melo and sissoko do roam and are not exactly players that hold their position.

poulsen on the other hand will not let himself be dragged out of the position too much and provide steady protection.

that was my thought

Yeah, but what about our attacks? :)
With Robben and Olic in Bayern's attack, Grosso and Caceres won't be given space to move forward and with Poulsen/Melo and Sissoko (all of them not capable of attacking from the flank) we'll have no width at all and all our attacks will go through Diego. Mark Diego and we're clueless, we have nobody on the flanks for Diego to pass the ball to, and you have two attackers completely isolated.

Well, "attacking" might not be included in Ciro's plans anyway:)

Btw, there is another solution to this.... Just play Poulsen instead of Melo if you want more stability in the center (for which I agree that Poulsen is better fitted) :)

hey, we're an italian team ... we'll play for the draw anyways ^^

you are right. my formation is more for absorbing their pressure and only wait for counters (where hopefully they will not mark diego, when they have possession).

on the other side you could say we can still field gio and try to press them back and attack their right back (if lahm plays on the left spot).

aaah, anyway we have a good chance of going through, because this time they did not fire the crap coach (like last year against chelsea) and this should be a solvable task for ferrara...

I just dont know what to expect especially after learning about Chiellini , Buffon an possibly Marchisio. I hope Trez starts ahead of Amauri though
I'll take even an ugly win/draw just as long as we stay in and get till Feb 2010 top get our house in order
