Exactly what I said pages ago

Just switch Bommel and Schweinsteiger. Bommel will never play on the wing
The flanks. We gotta defend the flanks.
Before we played Inter, even the birds knew their starting XI. With a midfield consisted of tough guys like Motta, Stankovic, Cambiasso and Muntari (no clear wingers or attacking full backs in the team), Ciro decided to counter that with more muscles in the center of the pitch. In the end, at least result-wise, it worked.
Now we have a different situation. We have a team whose main power is obviously on the sides. You have Lahm, Robben and even Muller attacking from one side and Badstuber, Schweinsteiger (he might play more centrally, but he can easily attack from the wing) and a very fast Olic attacking from the other side.
We simply can't play 4-2-3-1. It will leave Grosso and Caceres isolated against 2 or even 3 quality AND fast opponents because neither of Giovinco/Del Piero or Camo will offer support to our full backs. They will keep attacking us from the flanks and we gotta stop them. If we do, then we'll do 90% of the job because they won't have a second option to attack us centrally, because they lack quality CMs there.
We need support for Grosso and Caceres, that should be clear to everyone, especially Ferrara.
Imo, it should be done with the exact same line-up that played against Inter. Marchisio to help Grosso and Sissoko to help Caceres. These two move a lot to cover the flanks and even be involved in the midfield battle, where sometimes Melo and Diego will find themselves alone vs Van Bommel.
