Italy No1 Gigi Buffon has hit back at critics of Juventus and Azzurri teammate Alessandro del Piero.
"People can be critical of Del Piero, but his professionalism cannot be in doubt," said the goalkeeper. "He is always the first one to enter the training field and the last one to leave. He is an example for all.

"He is the same when he plays, as when he doesn't. At this moment, I see him ready and waiting to enter the field and to still astonish us all."

no one doubts his professionalism, and no one can ever do that either.
but the fact is,he's a has-been sadly.
this latest injury to him, even though not too serious, will further fuvk up his chances of a regular first team place at juventus and a place a place in the wc squad.
add that to cassano's availabity for roma, toni's spectacular form with the azzuri, and you get alessandro del piero in no man's land.

People get too easily excited with one very good performance (like the Toni against Belaruss) and suddendly it seems he replaced Gila as the new lethal weapon of Italia.
But there is still way to go until the WC. The good point is that Italy has soo many choices forward( Totti, Cassano,Vieri, Gila, Toni, DP, Lucarelli, Iaquinta, etc.) that, in the end Lippi will have a rough time choosing the right one......

agree with u. BUT. gilardino has proved it. 2 great seasons in a row. and toni has proved it with his stint in palermo.

Mutu could feature against Empoli on Sunday, especially as the under-fire Alessandro Del Piero is injured.

"Alex is an example for all of us," continued the former Parma ace. "He works hard in training without ever speaking out.

I can't believe there are some fans here that would push Del Piero towards Milan...what a terrible day that would be to lose one of our greatest Juventini to such a hated rival. It just doesn't make any sense.

Andy, I could never say it better even if I try....
