why would a couple of goals matter if the team under performs, this Italy side are light years away from anything like championship winning material. Germany has Gomez, Italy has who? Balotelli and Borini? seriously? Holland has Robben and Van Persie, Italy has giovinco and Matri? lol, spain has xavi and iniesta, asides from what Italy has in Pirlo and marchisio, they are left with the likes of nocerino aquilani and drum roll please.... montolivo... The only thing that has changed for italy since the disgrace of 2010 is the manager, the quality within the side has by no means improved.
You've seen what Conte was able to do with our Juve...

Prandelli:"I'll take Del Piero or Totti only if I'll be in emergency situation".

So, I guess Ale won't be in Euro 2012. But anyway, pray for injuries. Balotelli, Giovinco, Di Natale...
That idiot should take both! Playing DP or Totti as a trequarista would bring better results than playing that useless Toad look-a-like Montolivo! To top it off DP seems to be very fit right now! There's nothing too loose by adding them in the squad, and a lot to gain.

:agree:

And not trequartista, but super-sub as second striker. Prandelli is gonna copy Conte's 3-5-2, with most of the first team players coming from Juve. We all know how great Ale looks these days in Juve with this formation and those players, so why not in the Azzurri?

How hasn't Prandelli got them linking up well? They've played their best football since 2006 under him.

No doubt that the attack is pretty lackluster. If they had a fully fit Cassano and Rossi, they would have caused a lot of teams problems IMO.
tbh its not like they could play any worse than post 2006

no he wont

although this is something i have suggested many times in the past especially with criscito and maggio comfortable playing as wing backs

No. It's a national team, it's not like they're running a system week after week, they play one game every 3 months. Prandelli's old system was 4-3-3 with Cassano and Rossi upfront. Rossi is out and Cassano isn't 100% fit, so he'll have to make some changes. Since he'll play with 6-7 Juve players in the first team, and they're used to 3-5-2, it's only make sense that he'll use this formation.

make it sound so simple...

so 6-7 Juve players the other 4 or 5 have to understand it still.

Maggio plays 3-5-2 in Napoli too, and it doesn't even matter. You can't expect that the formation of the national team will fit all its players.
which is why i said prandelli is stupid not to have tried this formation before, in those stupid friendlies and now with the euros a couple of months away with 1 or 2 friendlies left you can't just expect them to just suddenly understand the system.

It's hard to make 'em adjust to any system since they almost never play together. It's not like Italy was perfect with the 4-3-3. They faced weak teams and qualified, cause Italy is much better no matter which formation they play. Anyway, many teams in Italy play 3-5-2, and if the Gazzetta are right and Maggio and Di Natale will start, 8-9 of the first team players play 3-5-2 with their teams, so that's almost all the starting 11.

not many teams, only 3 or 4 play with that sort of system or some variation of it, many in italy play a 4-3-1-2
just a shame the likes of vidal, asamoah, hamsik arn't italian. oh well will just have to make do with montolivo instead

Most of them are already used to the system. Plus, many teams tried 3-5-2 during the season, and the teams that play it regulary are Napoli, Udinese, us, that send players to the NT. That's important.
most of them like who? inter tried a 3 man defence under gasperini but that doesn't really count, 4-3-1-2 is practically the standardised formation for 'many' teams in Italy.
napoli and udinese only contribute 1 player each to the NT, mind you even di natale hasn't played for Italy in how many years?
