Totti on his personal website: Grande Alex, sensational move on the ball using your right foot to turn around and finishing it with your left. Beautiful goal. Great Ale, the real spirit and a symbol for your club, I congratulate you for this new achievment.

Del Piero: I'm very happy. This is my 1st goal in Serie A since almost 5months now though half the 5months I was on a holiday :D, this goal means a lot to me, I'm satisfied, reaching Boniperti's record is something I am proud of and will hold it for ever. Are you going to overtake him? He always said he would be happy if I overtake him, I will call him tomorrow and ask him. What's the secret behind your achievements, record after record? Always set your goals, work passionately and enjoy your work, personally I've always been like this and as long as my legs will keep on running I will keep on working this way:touched:

In our hearts Capitano, always. :star:

Boniperti begrudgingly gives up record
Juventus legend Giampiero Boniperti has written an open letter to Alessandro Del Piero jokingly begrudging him the equaling of his goalscoring record.

Del Piero scored for the 178th time in Serie A yesterday, once again putting his name in Juventus' history books alongside that of Boniperti.

“Dear Del Piero, you didn't even give us five minutes against Lecce: you came on and you scored. Well done,” Boniperti wrote in La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“With that wonderful goal you reached me on 178 goals in Serie A with the Juventus shirt, but you won't stop here.

“I am not a liar and I will tell you straight away that it annoys me a little, but the fact that it was you and that I have known you since you were a little lad and that I brought you to Juve, well, it gives me satisfaction.

“Sooner or later it had to happen also because I retired from football when I wasn't even 33, while I see that you, a step from your 36th birthday, still have a lot of desire to train.

“Carry on this way,” Boniperti added. “Teach your young teammates what Juventus is. Explain to them the pride of wearing this shirt and what being hungry for victory is.”

He has been in decent form, maintained as he has done for many moons, an unwavering show of decency, maturity and love for our club, and he has just equalled that record...Even I, a man who pre-season hoped for DP to be relegated to bench, must hold my hands up and say 'i fucking love you del piero, well done, brother, you bring me pride as a juventino, and long may it continue'....
