In a 4-4-2, I would love to see Del Piero next to Dzeko. Not only wouldn't Dzeko have to score ALL the goals by himself, but he could actually have a creative player who can score more than 15 goals next season if fit and create chances for him. Dzeko would make Del Piero look better and vice versa. Amauri makes DP look old cause he's useless.

Look, I've been against DP playing in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-1-2 but in a 4-4-2 I would love to see Del Piero play, especially next to Dzeko who is good enough. DP hasn't played with a good striker who can help him for years now. All everybody has been talking about is that Diego needs help or Amauri needs help yet Del Piero scored more goals than both those guys and nobody noticed that he also wasn't getting any help.
Diego + Dzeko would have a lot more mobility than Del Piero + Dzeko, plus it would made Dzeko the focal point of our attack, with Del Piero being more "selfish", Trezeguet was happy to let Del Piero do everything and just put the ball in, but Dzeko is different from Trez and would probably want to have the ball a bit more.

Even then, the most important point here is, Del Piero will be 36 in November. He will not have the stamina or the pace to cope with such a heavy load, and unless he stays injury free all season to be able to play each and every single game, the alternative is Iaquinta, the SS. That one, would be a nightmare my friend.

Don't attempt to reason with the Del Piero lovers; you will eventually get....

NOWHERE!

They think with their emotions, rather than resorting to logic or reason, and they tend to be extremely biased!

In any case, Del Piero should be used as an impact sub a la Giggs @ Manchester United. We can't develop a formation to suit him and start him every match. It's simply not feasible or worthwhile, given that he does not represent the future. We need to look ahead, not delude ourselves by continuing to be stuck in the past, or choosing to prolong the present!

We're still discussing if we should let Del Piero play or not? I guess nothing new in the Del Piero thread.

Keep proving us wrong Alex.

Is there a rule which says when you turn 36 you will eventually become an old man and incapable of running anymore?

My father at 36 was chasing Pandas I remember.
