Alessandro Del Piero begins his 18th season with Juventus. “Every time I feel different, but the constant is feeling proud of the Bianconeri jersey.”

The captain was given a warm welcome at the Pinzolo training ground by fans and is recovering well from a slight muscular strain.

“Every time I feel different and there are some recurring motifs, but the one constant is feeling proud of the Bianconeri jersey. I’m happy to have spent 18 years like this.

“I made so many of my dreams come true, following them with passion and hunger. I’m happy with my life.”

New Coach Gigi Del Neri has said Alex will be more than just a figurehead in the locker room.

“Del Neri has clear ideas and is quite rightly rigid in his demands. He has experience and everything it takes to do well at Juve.

“As well as an institutional role, a captain must have a sense of duty and be a reference point for teammates, fans and media.

“I am lucky enough to have many colleagues who would be excellent captains thanks to their personality and sense of responsibility. This has made my job a lot easier.”

Del Piero was asked to give his prediction of the 2010 World Cup Final this evening between Spain and Holland.

“Spain seem to have a slightly better chance, but that means nothing in a Final. It is a one-off match and anything can happen.”
