25.06.2010 THE KING OF POP

Do you remember cassettes? I mean the tape cassettes, those we could duplicate on the tape recorder, play and record... On one part was placed the original one, on the other, the one to copy. If I wanted to listen to one of those now (given it's not demagnetized) it would be real difficult, because these tapes were replaced first by cds and then by mp3.

When I think about Michael Jackson, in my mind I have the image of the tape cassette and then I think about my room in San Vendemiano, about my brother, who listened to his song and his stereo system. And I think about myself, asking him to make me a copy of that cassette.

I already thought about it a year ago, on the 25th of June 2009. When the news broke I was in the USA. I remember that I was having an aperitif with my wife, the TV was on and on the CNN channel they announced that Michael Jackson was in a very serious condition. I had the sensation of America that had frosen for a moment, trying to understand whether he would have made it. Unfortunately, a bit later, the TV gave another announcement: “The King of the Pop” is dead”.

The perfect definition : The King of the Pop. His boundless talent wrote the history of music and his music will live forever. A year after his death, I wish I had that cassette, I would listen to it...
