Both players should have remained on the pitch. Only a coward coach would take any of them out. Risk the fucking game hoping you can win or else try defending the useless 1point or more likely 0points.

Rab there wasn't gonna be any risk in the game, thats the whole idea. We already had 4 defenders and 2 DM what more any team needs? So 6 Defending players and 3 attacking. That is already a weak balance. With taking off DP, it became 7 defending players and 2 attacking.

This is how the team should have played:

Buffon
Zebina cannavaro chiellini Grosso
Melo Marchisio
Diego ----------- Del Piero
Iaquinta

With DP and Diego taking turns in filling the central part.
DP would have continued taking fouls and interrupting the inter game. We would have kept all 4 back players AT THE BACK. and maybe pushed even Cambiasso and Motta to be conservative in their attacking. The back 4 with melo and marchisio could have handled the rest.

You think Ale has a chance to be in the World Cup? I think there aren't 6 italian forwards better than him, but what Lippi thinks? I really hope he'll make it...the only good thing that can happen to him in this nightmare season.

BTW, no one (besides Di Natale, and maybe Borriello) is doing great this season. not Pazzini, not Gila, not Quaglia, not G.Rossi...Totti was amazing in the start of the season but look at him now, he looks dead. Toni is dead, Cassano like Totti (amazing in the start, but not for too long). Miccoli and merda ballotelli doesn't have a chance cause Lippi hates them...anyone else? cause I think Ale is for sure one of the six best forwards in that list.

Yeah, but the problem is you can't count it like that. Ale has no competition with the target men, who are a different category. In reality, Del Piero's concurrence are the support strikers and I'm guessing Lippi will take 3 such players at the world cup.
So you have those who were already played by Lippi in the qualifiers and the conf.cup (Rossi, Di Natale, Quagliarella...and even Iaquinta) and those who didn't play, like Totti, Cassano and Miccoli.
Now, Cassano and Miccoli won't make it, even though they both deserve it, but Totti is talking about a come back.

So, Del Piero's rivals are: Di Natale, Rossi, Quagliarella and Totti (maybe even Iaquinta). 3 of these will make it.
Personally I don't see Del Piero making it and his only chance are injuries. If two of the above mentioned get injured before the WC, then Del Piero might make it in the last minute.

Rossi looks bad this season, so as Quaglia. and Ale looks much better than Iaq (i hope they both will make it). We still don't know what's going on with Totti (who looks fucking dead). I don't think Ale will be there, just like you, but i think Lippi must take him.

If Borriello is maybe having a great season then Gilardino is having a great season. Pazzini is also outscoring Borriello in the league.

Also, it'll be fucking "Disgusting. Distasteful. Disgraceful" (thanks Ahmed) if Totti will be there and DP won't. where was Totti in the last four years when Ale played those ugly friendly matches in Georgia? He can't just return because of the WC...

Another chance for Del Piero is if he plays great in these last 4 rounds and brings us the 4th place.
Now that will be hard to ignore.

You know, Lippi wants to change tactics and I think that 4-3-3 will be one of the formations he'll use, with Di Natale and Camoranesi on the flanks. This formation is a problem for Del Piero, because when picking his players, I think that Lippi will give advantage to those who can play equally well in different formations and we know that Ale can't play so well on the wing or as an AMC, behind two strikers.
So I'm guessing Lippi will take 2 or 3 poachers (Gila? Pazzini? Borriello?) and from the other 3-4 he'll ask versatility. Totti can play as an AM and SS so even he has some kind of advantage over Ale.

But you never know. Lippi has a soft spot for Del Piero and lets face it, it's not like Italy has the talent Brazil, Argentina and Spain have. Del Piero might make it in the end. Chances for that are smaller than the chances not to make it, though.
