What do you mean by "this Totti"?

I must admit that I didn't watch many Roma matches this season (maybe 4-5 at most) so I'm not aware of Totti's fitness and form.
I do know, however, that at one point this season Ranieri praised Totti a lot and said that it's not a coincidence that Roma's good result happened at the same time with Totti's comeback. Also, I believe he's their best scorer this year with 21 goal on 22 matches in all competitions.

So is "this Totti" you're talking about the Totti of 2009/2010 or is there something about his fitness from the last weeks/month?
If it's only from the last weeks, then I guess it's fixable and Totti can regain his fitness and speed.
This Totti can add a lot to the Azzurri squad in fact.
No idea what are you talking about, Hoori. He is (or better was) an amazing player but try to watch him play now. Even Ranieri subbed him earlier when he was just dragging all over the pitch.

Alen, you can't rely on that. He scored tons of goals against clowns when the season started. He had like 7 goals in 2 games. He did have some good matches for Roma when he saved their ass but that's not it. He was never a fast player but he can barely move now.

How can he add a lot? If there's Pirlo behind him who can't run anymore? Or if there's Gilardino/Pazzini who don't get out of the box at all?

He can't add anything. Maybe he should lose 10 kilos but I highly doubt that will happen. It's not just recent form, he is getting older and sadly we're loosing to see one more legend play.

Ma siamo solo all’inizio.

19.02.2010 TEAM VICTORY
We came back from Amsterdam, knowing that we have obtained a team victory. We felt being a team, we were a team, we remained united and we suffered together when we had to suffer and attacked together when we had to attack: we all gave something important to take home this result.

We won for the second time in a row and for the second time we managed to recover. May be we were lucky as well, but luck isn’t easy to find, you have to look for it. No doubts, this is an important result. But we are just at the beginning.

The sense of this victory represents perfectly well the period we are going though now. Out of context it isn’t worth much. I mean, there’s still a long way to go and to be qualified we have to play in the same manner at the Olympic in the second round. But at the same time our good performance won’t have any sense if we don’t continue improving it.

Personally, I’m satisfied with my performance during the match, embellished by compliments from my coach, my team mates and from the coach of the opposite team (Ajax is an excellent team and it is worth all our respect for the match of the second round especially). So, I keep tight all their words…but I’m already thinking about Bologna!

20.02.2010 SILVER MEDAL JUVENTINO

I told you that I would be passionately following the Vancouver competitions of our National team (and not only). After the first week of Winter Olympic Games they have already given us some satisfactions, and I hope that the second week will be even better. There’s a wonderful contrast between our first medals, the one of Alessandro Pittin (20 years old and already at his second Olympic Games, and bronze medal) and the other one of Armin Zoeggeler, Olympic Games veteran, who has managed to conquer the luge podium for four Olympic Games in a row. This impressive result proves the fact that he isn’t just an extraordinary athlete but that he has also managed to keep up his professional level in all this time. And he has no intentions to give up.

Also the medal of Arianna Fontana is not to be left out, she isn’t yet twenty and can already boast two Olympic bronze medals, in relay in 2006 and individually in 2010 in such a spectacular sport as short track.

Apart from that I wanted to say some words about Pietro Piller Cottrer, great National team sportsman and great…Juventus fan! I met him before the Olympic Games in Turin in 2006, he came to see us in Pinzolo in retreat, then, later he came also to Vinovo and I tried his medals on. Well, real Juventus supporter that conquered extraordinary silver medal in Vancouver in the 15 km cross country skiing free style. At 35 ( just think…), eight years after he won his first medal in Salt Lake City. I’ll be waiting for him again in Vinovo, because I want to try on also the Vancouver medal, even more, let’s hope there’ll be me more than just one to try on.

My best compliments to all! Go Italy, go! And…go Plushenko, go! He wanted (and he was worth) a gold medal, but he took silver and it surely doesn’t reduce the enormous value of Zar!

This Totti has already scored over 20 goals this season. If he decided to play for Italy he would start next to Gilardino without any doubt.

Oh, I wasn't aware of any of this.
Some serie A follower I am :disagree:

Well, I don't care if he plays for the Azzurri or not, but I hope he regains his form and fitness and takes the scudetto from Inter.

No disagreement here, I just pointed out to ZAF (one of the most intelligent posters here imo) that DP and Totti doesn't deserve a secured spot in SA. If Di Natale, Gilardino and Iaquinta will be there (and probably the only doubt sadly is about Vinny), I hardly see a place for both Totti and DP, a big guy like Toni, Amauri or Pazzini will be needed for Lippi. Are there any progress in the Totti-Lippi situation?
First of all thanks for the compliment, I do enjoy reading your posts as well.

Yes italy winning the world cup was a team's effort, no one can argue against that. In the same time, that team had influential players. If worse comes to worst when any of these players is on the pitch they take with them a player or two from the opponent team opening up space for others to play freely.
Why do you think, as a general rule, Juve performs better when Del Piero is on the pitch? Ok besides the point that he is one of the best footballers ever, even when he plays poor juventus performs better than if he was injured or unavailable? The reason is simple, his presence on the pitch has its weight. I know some will jump on my face with no del piero shouldn't play if he is not ready or not in good form, yes I agree with you but I was merely pointing out the fact of the potential influence such players have on the pitch.

Even if you were right that their influence was just 2/11 in WC2006 but until you can find me ANOTHER two who can do what these two do on the pitch then they are a must to the italian national team. The only player capable of doing similar things is Cassano. What I am talking about is a player who can connect the whole team together. A player who can engineer the attacking power and create spaces. Currently in Italian football there are only 4 italian players who can carry such responsibility; Del Piero, Camoranesi, Totti and Cassano. If it was my choice I'd take them all to the world cup.
