In our game against Milan wasn't Diego playing on the right when Del Piero came in? He showed nothing there absolute nothing in terms of product, he did fought for evey ball possible though. We can see how good Marchisio is when played out of position. So why you want to use players out of their natural position is beyond me.

So acording to you Del Piero should start no matter what? Thats just wrong, no player except maybe goalkeer should have this privalege.

I think its about time to start getting used to times when Del Peiro will not be, and some even might say is not our main impact player. And what will you say next season? Lets keep him in the starting lineup too, because he is a legend and he has carried our team on numerous occasions before?

This is not what I am saying, but at the moment, he should start very frequent and play more so he can regain his match fitness. Whether some of us like it or not he is our best player. And no he is not a has been and no he still has the legs. Aging process doesn't happen between a day and night. Till the last game of last season he was playing full 90 min. This season his form has been poor because he hasn't played at all. How many minutes did DP play this season 200? or less? And they were not continuous (not in a raw).. No way a player can regain back his form like this, especially after a long injury, whether he's 20 or 40 years old.

And the answer to the second bold part, is yes. Because he has been carrying the team till last season and he was doing a terrific job. So yes he should start because he has proven that till today he is our best player up front and there is nothing wrong when the coach realizes his teams strengths and utilize them.. For me Del Piero is yet to play this season, and we have already gone through half of it.. But you are right, we don't need him. We have already qualified in the CL and we are topping the league without him.

Fact is that Del Piero like the whole team is underperforming a lot now. The saddest thing is that for Del Piero this time is maybe even more important important, because it's his last years as a footballer who can play at the highest levels, so even if pains me to say this but imho the best thing to do for a team would be invest in players who will be here after two years, and who will have a major role here after someone with a plan takes over. So in short they should be the priority, not Del Piero.

His playing is not only a matter of match fitness, in my oppinion it has something to do with the player being near the end of his proffesional game. It's not rocket scienece after all, to understand that professional footballers tend to degenerate their game in their later years, this does apply not only to Del Piero but to everybody, unless you think he is not human.

Im not against him playing more if he plays shows in trianing or well in games. I don't know how he performs in training, but it must be that he doesn't perform there superb if he doesn't get the start. But in matches he plays now, he feels slow, sluggish, weak.

One thing I want to add that for Del Piero to be a good asset for the team, the team needs to get the ball to him near the penalty box, but this ain't happening now as we all see, so starting him before a player who works harder, is stronger and faster is bad imo, firs we should somehow get the midfield working, and then i think he will probably be 10x times more dangerous then he is now, even in this bad form of his.

Anyway, we should look to the future, and the future will be without Del Piero on the pitch. And you guys shouldn't look at it in a bad view, but rather in a good one, because you were able to see one of the biggest legends playing for your beloved club. Be happy about it and be prepared for his departure, because it will happen sooner rather then latter.

in that game he had a huge respect bonus .... if the french defender playing against him would not had in mind that it is "DEL PIERO" (the big name) he is playing against ... he would easily have disposessed him. the defenders were just cowardly tracking back because they thought "hey, if i make a move forward del piero will use his class to go by me", but in reality ... as slow as he was in the last game ... would he (alex) have had a "palladino" mask on him the defender would have eaten him as snack before breakfast.

thats way these christiano ronaldo-like guys to much of their foot-sweeping and moving without actually touching or moving the ball ... they want to get respect from the defender and prevent him to just rush onto him before they prepared a move to go past them ... and if the defender did just stop a few metres in front of the player with the ball it is more difficult for the defender (that is in rest and not in movement) to accelerate into the right direction (where the attacking player wants to go past him).

I disagree. Del Piero is not underperforming. For a player to be underperforming he has to be fit first (including match fitness). When Trezeguet came back from injury and was barely running around on the pitch, many members asked for his head. Many wanted him to leave. But the fact is, he did not play football for almost a year, he just needed time. And now, he is our most lethal striker this season.
Same goes to Del Piero, how can you judge his form when he hasn't played mind you he is recovering from an injury.

Even if I go by your claim and the whole team is underperforming, I would take my chances with our captain because at least he can build the moral of the team and get raise the spirit level. We have seen him do it many times in the past decade.

I am not against investing in future prospect, my argument is about the present shit-hole we are in.

Just for the record, I still cannot explain what happened in the min 1:30 goal against Chievo. The ball was definitely going too high then suddenly took a really sharp decline and curl to the top corner. This is pure DP magic. But ofcourse the crazy goal was the one against Zenit where to broke the laws of physics by by starting to curl on one direction then it changed to the other.

I don't buy it. Even during his first five minutes he looks poor and out of shape. You can't start a player who tires THAT quickly, if that's the issue with Del Piero.
