Now, this guy deserves to be respected by everyone.
All the sacrifices he made, all the times he made everyone eat their words, "surviving" a horror injury and still reaching the top, the loyality, the charisma.....

I know you like them both Rab, and i know i'm a little biased, but Maldini has nothing on Del Piero.

Each time I remember how everyone wrote him off when Capello arrived.... Specially after he was benched over and over again.... each time I remember how everyone was just bashing him from press/media. The man never collapsed unlike too many other players that could never hold the pressure makes me proud to know that Del Piero is Captaining my fav team.

Reall, I'll never ever forget and shame on me If I dare to ever forget the moment and the timing when he said with Juventus even in Serie C ... even before it was official that we were sent to B when things were still un-clear.

The passion I have for this player goes beyond of 100 Paolo Maldinis.

All these guys played a minor role and they didn't play much for Milan.
Maldini was indeed the weak link when the other three in defense were Stam, Nesta and Cafu and he was very bad in the last years (which is normal, though).

Maldini was never the commander of the defense. He was a left back whose contribution in attack was close to zero.
Very good defender, indeed, but never as good as people make him out to be.

One 19 yo boy from the neighbourhood was telling me last week how Maldini is the best defender ever.
This is what i'm talking about. How the fuck does he know this? He was 5 when Maldini had his best season and Maldini certainly wasn't great in the last 5-10 years (when this guy started watching football). But the myth says that Maldini was the best and the guy decided to accept what the myth says.

Sala played 57 times in three seasons and I remember him as an awkward defender. He's good for the likes of Sampdoria but certainly nowhere near the level of Maldini. True, the other players I listed only played a handful of games, but Roque Junior was a pretty overrated defender, too.

Sure, Maldini is probably overrated, but one can say that about practically every good player out there. I can make a list of some favorites right now: Beckham, Owen, Totti, Ferdinand, Lucio, Casillas, the usual suspects in the Premiership, et cetera. But the same can be said by those who despise our team in Del Piero, Camoranesi, Trezeguet, Chiellini and others. So what's the point? This is pretty redundant.

Of course some little punk is going to say Maldini is the greatest defender ever. He probably thinks Beckham is the greatest winger ever, too, which I've seen/heard before.

Feed them enough crap and it eventually comes out of one of two ends.
